Bought to throw. Nice weight, probably a big aggressive for target usage. 23’ is a nice range for this axe. Hickory handled axes didn’t hold up, the solid construction of this should last a long time. Grip may not survive as long but with friction tape it isn’t important.

16” Campers Axe
I pick up this campers axe from Home Depot today and so far it looks like a good quality axe it is sharp enough to go right to work right out of the store but my only complaint is the thick coat of clear lacquer all over the whole thing. So I stripped all of that off and broke out my gun blueing and supplies and put a coat of Pirma blue on it. It did not turn out with a dark blue as I usually get but it looks more like a case Harding finish. Now it matches my 1873 Winchester rifle.

I bought this ax to use in my axe throwing league. Yes, it's a real thing popping up in cities across North America. This is the same model the establishment (Bad Axe Throwing) uses for their house axes because they are so durable. It's also a great size and weight for target throwing - which is all I use it for. I can't speak to it's ability to split firewood or clear brush. Though I imagine there are lighter axes out there if you want something to take on hiking/camping trips. But I've seen these axes take a LOT of abuse at the throwing lanes, and they always come back for more. So, if you want something rugged and dependable that will last and last, the Estwing is a great choice. And give axe throwing a try if it's in your town - it's a lot of fun.

I had mine for many, many years and it came with me in every camping trip. I find it well balanced and a bit on the heavy side. I would buy it again
