    Answer This Question

A:  The Anode should be placed in the water resting inside the plastic container it was purchased with open side up. The wire should be screwed into the sheet metal of the cooler above the water level.

A:  The anode sits under water, in the included tray, and the grounding wire is attached to the metal cooler housing. There is a diagram on the packaging of how to install. Only to be used in metal coolers.

Q:Why can’t you use this on a stainless steel cooler? Mine is galvanized.

        Answer This Question

A:  When an anode and stainless steel are used in an assembly together, the electrons from the anode will begin to transfer into the stainless steel. This results in the aluminum weakening and causes it to deteriorate at a much faster rate.

A:  Unfortunately, Dial has not tested it in this application, therefore cannot recommend it.

A:  I don't believe this would do anything. It works in water to attract the minerals in the water.

              Big Screws
The supplied screw connector has changed size, no longer fits into previous grounding spot. I stripped the hole when I forced it.

I buy one every year for my swamp cooler. I wish they lasted longer but they do take a lot of build up as the summer goes on

                Sacrificial Anode Destroys Some Coolers
Phoenix Mgf Inc verified that Dial's sacrificial anode destroyed the like-new powder coating on my cooler pan. I believe that sacrificial anodes work well to slow rusting in an already rusting cooler pan, but apparently they can destroy the coating in one that isn't already rusting. Perhaps Dial could provide some edification as to the circumstances in which a sacrificial anode should and shouldn't be used. W.r.t. the anode, I thot that it was well made.
