The plastic works fine with hot water. Since you need 12 inches, you will need and extension. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-1-2-in-x-6-in-Polypropylene-Slip-Joint-Extension-Tube-C9792/205153628 Some people are NOT happy since they made the arm shorter and the hose leaks. Make sure you get one with a long enough arm. Also, don't use the white gaskets. Get these green ones. Much less prone to leaking: Beveled: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-5-in-Polyethylene-Beveled-Washer-2-Pack-C7197C/205153687 Flanged for tailpiece: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-5-in-Polyethylene-Beveled-Washer-2-Pack-C7197C/205153687

the tail pipe is 1/2 inch, while dishwasher hose are 1 inch. I looked up the dishwasher hose that HD sells the tail pipe is too small. who orders this stuff for HD, do they work or play during work time. I have pile of stuff I will be taking back. dishwasher drains with a pump, check valve and it is not going to work with a smaller diameter hose, even if I figure out a way to connect it. stock the correct size. May be in another country this would be a correct size or in an RV, but this is the wrong size for a house. I removed my food disposal and that is why I need a tail piece.

Just what I needed, but not quite as advertised
This product (store SKU 10000502820) is listed on line as 1-1/2 in. x 8-1/2 in. However, the sealed plastic bag it comes in lists it as 8 in. (and it measures 8 in. end-to-end). So, don't buy this if you need the extra 1/2 in. length. Previous reviewer stated it was not as shown (no nut). However, the sealed plastic bag it comes in includes the nut and washer, and they're listed on the bag in the contents statement. Bought a dishwasher that's due to be delivered next week - I'll know then how to rate the ease of installation for this purchase, but it looks like it shouldn't be a problem.

To the person saying this is not for dishwasher (with pictures)
From your own pictures of your dishwasher waste hose, see the lines on your rubber connector??? Those are for you to CUT to use whichever plumbing branch your need. See them? They are step down increments. You adjust to fit your need. It is your hose that needs to be cut in order to fit. It's all designed correctly, you just need to know what you're talking about and what you are using. It works just fine.

ck your size
This is not the size for a dishwasher hose folks. I see the complaints in the reviews. It worked great for my ice machine drain which runs on a 1/2" hose.
