Q:Will these work with Polypropylene rope? If not, what do you carry that is compatible?

      Answer This Question

A:  Poly rope could work, but wire ropes are recommended for use with this aluminum ferrule and stop set. Part# 809766, SKU 1000052724 is an example.

A:  These can be used with polypropylene rope. However you need to use caution when crimping. Over crimping can lead to premature failure by damaging the rope fibers at the ferel. There is also a metal (tin) ferel available that may be a better option.

Q:Will these fit 1/4" coated steel cable?

        Answer This Question

A:  No. Any coating has to be stripped back first to allow access to the bare wire.

        by|Apr 20, 2019

A:  Yes, it should fit 1/4" cable.

        by|Apr 8, 2019

A:  These are made for 5/16 cable, coated or uncoated. You can purchase the same ferrule's made specifically for 1/4.

        by|Apr 4, 2019

A:  This will fit 1/4" coated steel cable. Please keep in mind that it is always advised to remove the vinyl coating on the section of wire rope where the ferrules and stops are attached.

The quarter inch wire I planned to use was covered with clear plastic designed to provide better protection for the wire over time. That is no good when using ferrule and stop sets so first of all I stripped the plastic covering off to access the multi stranded wire. The ferrule and stop fitted snugly, as they should, and I used a battery powered press tool with a suitable pair of dies to fix the ferrule and stop in place. The job worked as it should and the ferrule and stop were fitted securely to the wire rope.

This pair of ferrules is well made, sturdy and includes stops to further secure the steel cable. What is required for these to be used safely is a swaging tool that properly compresses and crimps the ferrule into the cable strands and that is sold by The Home Depot. Unless you are going to use a lot of these ferrules the expense of the swaging tool would be impractical. While these ferrules do hold very well the instructions and warnings on the back of the package warn about misuse and the limitations of these ferrules. For making loops in steel cable a better choice would be cable clamps that can be adjusted and tightened once the cable stretches, which it will do once tension is placed upon it.

Easy to use with the right tools and so far it’s still holding the bird house.

I have a 1 car shade canopy. The dark canopy was attached with bungee cords at every gromet. The weather has destroyed the bungees and I had to replace them a few times. After the last storm I decided to use a thin coated wire rope. After threading the cable through all the gromet holes and wrapping around the corresponding pipe framework, I connected the 2 ends with the ferrule and stop set for a clean termination.
