Questions & Answers

The product description shows "made of 100% stainless steel" so please confirm that the 5/16" slotted hex head is stainless steel (not just the 1/2" wide band). Also, what is the stainless steel "grade"? 304 SS?

What's the heat tolerance for a hose clamp? Does the heat of an engine affect it negatively?

    Answer This Question

No, heat won't affect these all-steel clamps but they are inferior to constant tension spring clamps used from the factory. Get those instead from an auto store, amzn, Harbor Freight, etc.

Hi, the maximum operating temperature for these clamps is 800 degrees F. Hose clamps are used routinely in car engines, these clamps will work perfectly.

Is it correct that these will fit on a hose/tube with an inner diameter of 1-1/4" (that has an outer diameter of 1-5/8")?

              Answer This Question

Hi Ben: The clamps have min/max dimensions that need to fit over the outside diameter of hoses. In this case, the hose max dimension is 1 5/8 inch, this clamp has a max diameter of 1 1/4 inch, so it will not fit. SKU 100-592 at The Home Depot will fit this application. Thanks for your question.

How do you rate a band clamp. Seriously, it either works or it doesn't and these worked. Used them to secure then end of a water hose to a new hose coupling. Works like a champ. Need some detailed feedback? Well, the slot for the flat head screw driver is rounded instead or squared off promoting slippage while screwing the clamp on. Not good. You could stab yourself with the screw driver while trying to tighten the clamp. So I recommend you us a hex drive socket to tighten it. Problem there? The corners of the hex are rounded too, but while the socket might slip you won't possible stab yourself with the driver. Simple product that does what it's designed for although obviously mass produced with engineering design flaws. My 2 cents worth.

Nice smooth clamping. Strong, performed fine. Selected to clamp 3/4 id. tubing to fittings to repair waterline. Satisfied with clamps. Seemed thinner than older clamps but still did the job. Screw turned easily even with pressure so precise thread and band grooves on the well made smallish clamp.

I use these clamps for making repairs to my 1-inch polyethylene underground sprinkler lines that were installed in 1973 - four clamps per replacement section with slip fittings. Although they can be tightened with a screwdriver, the best seal is created by carefully heating the end of the polyethylene line with a heat gun or propane torch, inserting the slip fitting, tightening the clamp's hex screw first with a screwdriver, and then while the line is still warm completing the tightening with a small wrench on the hex screw.

I bought these for an automotive repair from HD because I didn't want to pay a higher price from the local auto parts store. They worked well and have been leak free for the past week. I think it was a good purchase and hopefully will pass the test of time. I still have 6 left and will use them on a home project this time. It's good to have extras around the house.

I used these to fix an office chair that would not stay up. Put as many on the stem as you need and the seat will never sag down again. The clamps work exactly as expected and appear to be well made.

                  Not very good
These are Ideal Tridon hose clamps. They aren't very good. Almost half of the hose clamps I used, broke. They are not good when you need a lot of clamping force, such as when connecting HDPE pipe. Also there are these little tabs, under where the strap goes in, that are folded down to hold the body of the screw part together; when you tighten down the hose clamp, the tabs tend to get jammed into the strap and bent with it. In one case the tabs bent all the way 180˚, which caused the tabs to lock the strap in place, making it impossible to remove the hose clamp (instead the screw came out of its house). They work but they do not rank very high; the original hose clamps that say "-O-" on them (don't know who makes those) were much better and they could be cranked as tight as I could make them without stripping. There are worse hose clamps out there, though. This will work but expect to break some.
