Can this kit be used with pex pipes?
Asked by: Ryan
I used it successfully with PVC in Oct, see pic. It never leaked a single drop to date. Not sure of the difference between PVC and Pex.

Can I sue this kit to tap into a steel pipe?

Asked by: Tyster
First guy was right. Turn water off, drill 1/8" hole on top if line if horizontal, use rubber seal on the side that has the hole . Fasten the two halves with the larger screws, the valve screws into the halve that has the hole and the rubber seal against the pipe.

Saddle Valve- Supply Line Diameters

is the saddle valve enclosed in this kit applicable to a 3/4" copper supply line in the home? What diameters will it work on?
Asked by: psufan
Yes it will work on 1/2" or 3/4" pipe for the saddle valve attachment. The outlet of the saddle valve is 1/4".

1/4 in. x 25 ft. Poly Ice Maker Kit is rated 2.3 out of 5 by 82.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't do it As my brother would say ... buy two of these and throw them BOTH out. This just does not work and, as other reviewers have said, it will flood your house. They do not include the parts you need, and yet you think you've installed it correctly. Hopefully the line blows off as soon as you open the valve and not later that night. Do. Not. Buy. This.

My gripe is that it lasted all of about 3 months before the o-ring failed, started leaking, and ruined the drop ceiling in my bedroom. So tomorrow I will be putting in a nice slip in shark valve(not cause I can't sweat one in, just don't want to). Do yourself a favor, by a nice Tee valve to put in there and don't buy one with the needle valve. Thankfully when cranked in it shut off the water to ice maker and doesn't leak so I didn't have to sweat in a connector so I would have water for the night. But with the valve open its pouring out of the needle valve.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Once again Home Depot fails the customer Read the reviews, saw that the product was garbage, went to the store - discussed with the plumbing dept guy and he said "all of the guys leaving bad reviews are doing it wrong" Took it home, messed with it for HOURS. the kit is missing crush sleeves that are NECESSARY to make a good connection at the fridge and at the valve. I went to ace hardware, bought the correct kit for two dollars more, and brought this junk back to Home Depot. Theres two things that bother me about this (besides the hours I wasted messing with this) 1. The plumbing employee was quick to discredit the reviews saying this product was junk and didn't bother to investigate on his own even though I brought it to his attention. 2. Home Depot continues to sell this junk to customers, even though it has PLENTY of reviews saying that it is clearly DEFECTIVE AND MISSING PIECES.

The brass inserts for the waterline are too large for slipping on the compression fitting. Others have complained about other aspects but I am here to tell you that if you want to do this simple and easy in 10 mins go search out another kit with plastic sleeve inserts. I spent two hours trying to get the fitting to slip on and ruined the line once but pulling on it so hard it stretched. Also it does not come with a slip coupler which is a bad idea for the leaks people have mentioned.

Truly I should have read the reviews before purchase, ESPECIALLY before I wasted 1 1/2hrs on trying to install a water line kit that IS MISSING A KEY COMPONENT! I would submit a photo, but it's not worth it. HOME DEPOT IF you truly want to seem like you want to provide great customer service, why not look at the reviews your customers post, AND tape a freggin ferrule to the package since there should be one in the package and there isn't?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product Quality 1/2018 I have had the luxury to replace to of these system in the last six weeks. Inatalled my mother in laws and found the fittings to be junk. Had to go back and get new ones. The reviws are accurate. NEXT... The reason i had to replace both was surprising. Both had been installed for years and within 6 weeks both had pin holes in the poly lines. The water was blowing out in a fine mist and barely noticable. The first one I brushed off, but the second one concerned me. This was no longer a fluke. This was by design. Take no chances on this and go with copper or other options. Bottom line is if the fittings do not get you the poly hose will, at some point.
