Beware the Damper Handle
The damper handle that opens and closes the louvers on this vent presents a hazard in all but the fully-closed position. It's a really poor design using a lever that can stick out from the wall as much as an inch when the louvers are partly open. On the other air registers in my home, the louvers are adjusted with a slider that's flush with the surface of the vent. With this, you could easily rip your clothes or hurt yourself if you were to accidentally walk into it. I'll probably return it.

How about priming the metal before applying the top coat of paint
The register itself works fine. It would have been better if the manufacturer had primed the metal BEFORE painting the top coat on it. As it is, the top coat peels after a short time, but I suppose thats the way Home Depot keeps customers buying more.

I was told to install this type of vent into our cold air return in the basement. This would even out our temps in the house.
I am a DIY kind of guy, but was concerned I would mess up a brand new furnace and vents. This didn't happen. Took me less than an hour, and the vent adjusts airflow easily so if I want to change or turn off the airflow, it's easy. Installs with only 2 screws too.

This is the second one I've bought within a year because the first one rusted out. This is for my bathroom. I wish it was rust proof. This time I bought some clear Rustoleum and I'm hoping it'll last longer with the extra protection. It fits the area but the screws are a bit too wide for the existing metal plates. I had to use some I had already. There weren't any other options at the store this size so I guess I'd recommend it anyway.

You mentioned that this registers is going into a bathroom; bathrooms are notorious for high humidity which will cause the register to rust. We offer this size in aluminum face with a steel multi-shutter damper on the back our model "A102M 10X06" or we even offer this size in an all plastic model, our model "102MP 10X06". Either of these models you can special order through Home Depot. To place a special order, your will need to go into your local Home Depot store and at the Pro Desk place the special order for which even model you prefer.

This is a good replacement part for the old register that shows their age. After years of service the old registers that have been painted several times are due for replacement. The important thing to note is that when replacing the old registers you have to size these for the duct size and not just the overall size. The vent control operates smoothly

This register is solid and nice looking. The photo is before we screwed it in. It fits well in standard register openings. It also screws in well. There is no looseness or shakiness in it once screwed in. It looks nice and is easy to adjust. The register is very solid and well-built, so it should last at least for what is left of our lifetime. Good for replacement or in a new structure.
