The stop attaches to the cut end of a wire rope to keep the individual strands from unraveling.

How to use them

The ferrules are used to crimp wire rope in a loop and the stop is often used to keep wire rope from receding through a hole or limit travel. You must use a swaging tool to properly crimp them. (HD SKU #566745). Best to view a swaging video on YouTube if you have never swaged before.

This looks like a bargain – until ---. At $1.37 for a set this is pretty inexpensive. The Product Overview clearly says, “Proper assembly recommends setting with a swaging tool ---“. That looks OK until you discover that a low-end swaging tool sells for around $28.00+, which isn’t too bad if you’re going to use it more than once in great while. Then you read the reviews and discover that the quality of the tools in that price range leave plenty to be desired. A higher quality swaging tool will run in excess of $80.00, and can even exceed $200.00. I surely will not use these often enough to justify that kind of cost. Also, these aluminum ferrules are not intended for use on cable used for vertical loads. For making llops in the cable, a thimble (inexpensive) should be used. Though not the recommended way to do so, I have successfully crimped small ferrules (aluminum, copper, and steel) with a vice. Note: I DO NOT recommend this for any kind of high tension or heavy load. On 3/16” and larger cable, I’ve generally used U-bolt type cable clamps which are much stronger, though they do add considerable bulk to the project, and can be easily removed which makes them not so good for security type use. In short, these are good if you plan on using them for light duty, and/or can justify purchasing a swaging tool to use with them.

These are badly machined with poor quality control and Chinese metals have questionable pedigree. Parts were galled with excess flashing in hole that had to be cleaned out prior to use. Packaging is a nightmare to open. You must use proper size swaging tool for this size if you expect them to stay on. Absolutely do not use these on anything critical. For the money spent, I would have expected much better quality.

I picked these 3/32 in. Aluminum Ferrule and Stop Set, by Everbilt, to use for safety cables on larger portable hanging stage lights. I use them to wrap 3/32 in cable around the light and fasten a snap on the other end. It keeps the light from taking an untimely dive at the people below. I have used this set up for years on all portable work lights I use. They work just right for me.

These are a great little set for wiring things like picture hangers or other things around the house. I have used them to make a stronger picture frame support with minimal ease. I use my electrical pliers to crimp the lines but you could use other tools to make this happen. They are clearly aluminum because I used them outside this summer to hang patio signs and they showed no signs or rust nor stuck to the magnet.
