What size and type of chain can I use with the 2” Pulley?
    ByJul 16, 2026

    Answer This Question

Hi Home Depot Customer, The Everbilt 2 in. Nickel-Plated Fixed Pulley is designed for use with rope or other cordage. For optimal performance, a rope with a 1/4 inch diameter is recommended. While some users have mentioned using 5/16 inch rope, the wheel's valley is 1/4 inch. Using rope much smaller than 1/4 inch may cause it to get wedged.

In order to use a chain with the 2" pulley, the outer diameter of the chain should be less than 0.3 in. For better performance and smoother operation, we recommend using a wire rope or nylon rope instead of a chain.

Great quality pulley. Remember this is only a 3/4 " pulley which is rather small and only rated up to 30 lbs. but Perfect for small jobs. - There is an eyelet on the top to either tie a rope through or place a securely mounted clip through. I would NOT recommend using a plain hook as the pulley could slip out of the hook. - There is NO ball bearings in the pulley. It looks like there is just a metal tube as a "bearing" so this will definitely not last long if you place too much weight on the pulley system. and appears no greasing is required. - I used a 1/8 Nylon rope on this pulley -There are limited directions on the back of the package so don't carelessly tear open the package. We attached the pulley with a bucket onto our kids Play Fort. They are having a blast with it! they are using this fine pulley to hall a whole bunch of things up and down into there Play Fort.

I bought a used 32 ft. extension ladder. The ladder itself is in very good condition but the rope used to extend it is rotted and the pulley is badly rusted. This 1-1/4 in. pulley is the exact size I need to replace it. Prior to installation I gave it a shot of wheel bearing grease to reduce friction and for corrosion protection. It's rated for a 110 lb. working load limit which is much higher than it will ever see. I replaced the rotted rope with 20 ft. of 1/4 in. poly rope which fits in the pulley perfectly. Ladder is now good as new. EVERBILT does not offer a printed warranty but as with most products Home Depot sells they offer a 90 day return policy.

Nice little pulley, with an even coating of nickel. Based on the first pic, I was expecting a brass wheel. After it arrived, with a nickel wheel, I see the second pic clearly shows the wheel is nickel. My only complaint, there is nearly 1/8" play in the wheel (see pic). If I use a stiff 1/4" rope, then there is no problem, but something thinner, or with stretch, might slip the wheel and get wedged. FYI, it is not brass under the nickel. A magnet sticks to both the body and wheel. I suspect it will rust if chipped.

Small pulley for light tasks. No ball bearings just a rivet through a wheel and the top hook is solidly connected to the frame of the pulley. And the inner pulley wheel is also solid metal. I am using this pulley to hoist my bicycle to the ceiling of my garage. I do not use it in a block-and-tackle setup to make the forces smaller, but instead just use it to help lift and hold the bike horizontally to the ceiling. I installed an eye hook in a joist on the ceiling, put this pulley on the hook. Ran a ¼ inch rope through the pulley and rigged up a railing banister holder as a hook. I then have 2 large hooks in my wall about 12" from the ceiling tire width apart. Hang the bike wheels on these wall hooks, then hoist the bike frame up using the pulley and this gets the bike out of the way and maintains lots of headroom below. So it looks like the bike is riding on the wall. I have it tied off using a rope cleat. Anyways, since I am not hoisting much more than 20lbs, the pulley didn't need to be rated very heavily. This pulley does exactly what I need and should last longer than my bike. The pulley spins smoothly and freely even under load. While it does wobble a bit if you spin it fast, I see no problems while using it in my scenario. So its a perfect option for me and my use case. If I was lifting something heavier, I would look for a pulley with ball-bearings.

It does not have bearings, so it kind of rickety.
