Ours are installed in hollow doors. You may want to tap the door where the stopper would go (about an inch above the bottom and an inch in) to listen and see if there is wood. I'm pretty sure hollow core doors still have real wood around the perimeter edges.

Will this hold open a home garage fire door with automatic door closure?

No.. the magnet is only strong enough to hold open a free swinging door. I don't believe the magnet is strong enough to hold open a door with an automatic door closing device.

No more slamming doors! Now we can open the windows and let a breeze through the house. We used these at our old home and am installing them in our new home. They also let us keep the self-closing doors to the garage open so we can bring in the groceries. Great product.

Works good for a regular interior door. Was not strong enough to hold open the door to our garage, granted it’s a heavier door, and has a few self closing hinges. Still a good product.

Easy to assemble, we needed a solution to hold a door as fully open as possible without using a hook... and this works GREAT! The door in question is not wide to begin with and its natural swing hangs a little away from fully open. No danger of the doorknob punching a hole in the wall because the knob is past a corner, so we wanted to take advantage of that little bit of wasted space and open the door farther. Worried that the long end might get in the way of little feet in our home, we attached the long end to the bottom of the door and the short end with its spring-loaded silver center (to absorb shock) to the baseboard. Taking advantage of the very forgiving spherical socket assembly, we were able to get this set mounted PAST the corner of the wall so the bottom of the door is almost-but-not-quite right up against the baseboard. We get maximum opening with little chance of damage anywhere. Small details, all of it, but it's the small details that get things right; no more wasted space behind this door.

INSTRUCTIONS WRONG On the wall side, **DRILL 5/32" HOLES for the plastic wall anchors!** (as shown in the online picture). Better yet, buy your own higher quality wall anchors Package says 7/32" which is WRONG!! my plastic wall anchors spun in the drywall and i lost one to the other side. This ruined the wall with 3 holes. I was able to offset the holes by 60 degrees, decided to forget the wall anchors, and now i have 6 holes in a circle. Pretty annoyed! I don't even understand how these wall anchors are supposed to work well. They're not ribbed to stop the direction of motion. Rather they're ribbed to prevent rotation... which is helpful during installation and never afterwards! I can just foresee them sliding right out. However other reviewers seem to indicate it works well, so perhaps it's just me. Drilling directly into the wall, I hope this last a while under daily use. So far seems solid. 3 screws seems about right. Dropped a star for this issue. Rest of the product works correctly. Other thoughts: (1) Be very careful aligning the the two halves. I was much more careful than the instructions described. One major difference - After installing the door side, I attached the wall side half, with everything assembled, so I was able to draw a circle on the wall. This helped with aligning everything much better. Even so, I was still a tiny bit off. (2) The door side has a nice strong spring and feels high quality. (3) The backplate of the door side spins off using friction from your finger, not indicated in instructions.

Simple install looks great.
That was so easy! 15 mins. watching the installment instructions first. Took unit apart, marked wall/ floor molding. screws in. marked door by using magnet on wall to door. mark with pencil. take apart, mark screw holes, screw in post, worked. looks great and so simple! holds fine indoor in the bathroom. Magnet is plenty strong for indoor use. Spouse wants the unit on top. 10 minutes later moved.

I was deciding between installing a traditional kickdown door stopper or this magnetic one after several years of using an old school rubber door wedge. The reason why I chose this was because I didn't want to risk dirtying my newly painted white door each time we kicked down the stopper. The magnet in this door stop is very strong. I was actually worried that it wouldn't hold open my heavy wood door but it did the job! Door stop and catch can be installed interchangeably either on the wall or door. Just make sure you install the wall anchors if your planning on installing the door stop on drywall. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this product!

This product is exactly what we were looking for. The magnet is strong and holds perfectly, and it looks better than we expected (sleek design). If you're tired of fumbling with door stops, you've found a great solution.
