3 in. x 9 in. x 24 in. Metal Fence Post Driver is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 284.

If my soil was more solid/dense and had more rocks I'd have to find the heavy duty post pounder I used years ago (it's so heavy it's difficult to lift), as that extra weight makes pounds posts much faster and easier. This one takes some additional effort and downward force while pounding. I only needed it for a few posts in my yard and it worked perfect for that. I wouldn't recommend it for a farm or ranch when pounding multiple posts throughout a day. You'd need to weld weight to the top to make your efforts pay off faster, or find a heavy duty pounder (which I wasn't able to find in the store or online).

I did have to lay the post down on the ground and slide the tool over the top, but then I was able to tilt everything up and pound the post in easily. When you are the same height as your post, this is the only way to go. My sister, who is 5' 9" tall and could use a mallet, loved this tool. After she went home, she bought one for herself so she could reinforce her back fence next to a brook. The wooden posts she had used before rotted out from being so close to the water. She replaced them in a day with metal posts and this handy tool.

For years using hammer and block of wood. Now I realize, that was stupid. This device makes putting in metal posts into very hard ground. So much easier. A single post used to take 15-20 mins, with this thing it takes 3-4 wacks and it's in. I'm annoyed at myself I didn't get years ago. Yes its speciality, but the chiropractor savings alone. So worth it. If you are putting up metal posts, this is a total arm and back saver. I've put in 20 posts and it still looks unused.

I think a fence post might be less demanding then an 8 ft. rod, so maybe 5 stars for driving fence posts. We ended up renting an electric roto-hammer drill, homedepot.com/tool-truck-rental/Roto_Hammer_2/HR5210C/index.html, with a special bit that did the trick. Even that wasn't easy at this 25 year old compacted site.

Also I had to sink 2 posts further and was able to turn the Everbit tool 180 deg over and use the end to hammer post to desired depth due solid welded construction.

Worked great...I installed 4 posts with no problem... so gratifying to see how easy it was for me to drive the post (I am 6', 230 lbs). One important note is to have GOOD gloves when you use this item. The weight was adequate and not awkward to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I did it by myself I was skeptical that a 72 year old woman who is only 5' 1" tall could set 150' of fence posts, but I figured it was worth a try. Imagine my surprise when I not only was able to set posts that are as tall as I am, but it was actually easy. Now, I had to make a couple of adjustments. I had to slide the driver over the top of the fence post while it was lying on the ground, then lift it up into position. After that, a few slams on the post and it was done. Easy, peasy. Trust me.
