About This Product

Everbilt Fence Post Driver makes installing metal fence posts quicker and easier. The weight of the driver does the pounding for you. The 14 lb. metal cylinder has two handles that are tapered for comfortable hand placement. The red-painted heavy duty steel is tough enough to pound thousands of posts, while being designed to minimize damage to the fence post tops. Installation is easy. Place the weighted cylinder over the top of your T-Post of U-Post, lift and release. Repeat until post is buried to desired depth. Fits posts up to 2-1/2 in. Works best as a T-Post Driver or U-Post Driver, but may be used with other types of fence posts. This manual post driver is great for contractors and professional use, as well as for DIY fence projects.

A:  Phil, thanks for asking your question. Yes, you could use the metal post driver to drive U-posts - just be careful not to drive the post too forcefully into the ground.

A:  Hello Julie. Yes, it should work if the width of the post is less than three inches. I used mine on t posts without a problem.

A:  I'm not sure what you mean by u post. That makes me think of unistrut and the answer is no. This fence post driver is made to work with metal fence posts that have a "wing" attached about 2' from the bottom. You position the post where you want it to be. You put the driver over the top of the post and let it go down to the point where it is sitting on the "wing". Then use the handles on the sides to raise it up and rapidly down against the "wing". It's just like driving a nail or a stake except the impact is at the bottom against the "wing". The center piece of it is just a 2' long piece of 3" pipe.

A:  I have driven a few dozen green fence posts and they go in well in our clay soil. If you are driving into a soft bottom lake you should be all right.

                    by|Jun 1, 2021

A:  The centerpiece of the driver is a piece of 3" pipe. It is made to go over the end of the metal fence posts that have the "wing" attached about 2' from the bottom. You put the driver over the top of the post and use the handles to drive it down. For what you want to do I can see welding a flat piece of steel on the top of it so there is a place for the impact to happen.

A:  You are asking multiple questions.. would it hammer down a 2" pipe - yes; would it drive it into a sandy soil yes; would 2 feet be enough - IDK...

I am only giving this a 4 star review because I'm 6' and I weigh 225 pounds and I would have like to of had a little bit heavier of a post driver. This is a good post driver for the average home owner but I would have liked to had 1 about 10 pounds heavier. So what I did was I got a 25 pound piece of solid bar stock and welded it to the end now it works perfect.

Very good on it's own but i welded an 6 lb sledge head on it and it really drives a post down now.

                          I did it by myself
I was skeptical that a 72 year old woman who is only 5' 1" tall could set 150' of fence posts, but I figured it was worth a try. Imagine my surprise when I not only was able to set posts that are as tall as I am, but it was actually easy. Now, I had to make a couple of adjustments. I had to slide the driver over the top of the fence post while it was lying on the ground, then lift it up into position. After that, a few slams on the post and it was done. Easy, peasy. Trust me.

Works Great for Driving Fence Posts
Does a great job of driving metal fence posts and is much safer that sledge hammer. Great tool for the money.
