If your dryer exhaust is hot enough to ignite plastic, it's going to catch your clothes on fire. The high setting of your dryer may have an exhaust temp. about 140 - 155 °F. This temp. will vary by manufacturer. If your exhaust temp. is much higher, please consider having the dryer checked. The melting point of Polypropylene is about 266 °F, but the ignition temp. is much higher. The autoignition temp., (or the lowest temperature in which it spontaneously ignites in a normal atmosphere without an external source of ignition, such as a flame or spark. autoignition) is about 730 °F. Cotton, which is combustible, starts to decompose when the surface temperature reaches approximately 205°F and in the process, generates its own heat.
This is good question! You better not to tighten it direct;y to sheet rock - whole assembly will be sloppy. I used "bolt, nut, and two washers" assembly. Pre-drill openings. Worked well for me ! If you believe in plastic then you can try dry wall screw with washer close to the head and drive the screw through the sheer into plastic of the connector. May work as well. Hope it all helps! I would say that wide washer for sheet-rock will be highly recommended (IMHO).
Yes, the flange seals pretty tight. If your wall isn't flat, you might seal the flange with some caulking.
