I own about a dozen of these and find them well suited to a number of different applications. In my garage, I use them to hang tree stands and other small objects. In my basement, they support storage of crown molding and other small dimensions of wood. They work well and definitely support the 20 pound working load the item claims--as long as they are appropriately mounted into a stud.
These are affordably priced and they do their job; however, the surface coating of mine was removed after repeated use for hanging metal objects over the course of a year. It's not a problem to me, but as you can see in the pictures it is noticeable.
Like other reviewers have noted, I don't use this to support a ladder either. I believe there are better products to support those with my choice being these (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-10-3-4-in-Black-Heavy-Duty-Wall-Mounted-Ladder-Hanger-18012/202305456)

Helping hooks for hanging stuff
Very useful, I've been using these for over 30 years. I always run out. You can hang just about anything on them, under 20-30 lbs. But its best if you screw on solid wood, like a ceiling or wall beam. If you use on drywall, bathroom tile or thin wood make sure to use anchors & gorilla glue or some type of chalking glue on the threads & hole to strenthen the hook.
