A:  The extra bolt catch included with the Everbilt 5 in. Galvanized Barrel Bolt is another option that can be used if the traditional cannot be used in the desired location or application.

      A:  The bolt in this barrel bolt is 0.6 inches.

        A:  About half to 3/4 inch thick. I didn't measure it. VERY strong.

          A:  You can use it instead of the other latching piece. I drilled a hole for the slide to go into, then screwed the piece over the hole. It's just a different option. You use one or the other.

          I found my outside laundry room door open one morning, 2 weeks ago. I do have a locked interior door beyond it. Believe me - I went twice to Home Depot to look for a lock. I stood at the aisle, looking at a wide variety if locks - for an unusually shaped, homemade door. I finally decided on a large bolt-type lock. My repairman expertly attached it. It's so tight, sturdy, secure. I can finally sleep at night - confident that no one will break in to my house through the outside laundry room door.
