Q:I am turning a 8'x40'x9.6' hi cube cargo container into a house on a tight budget is 9'x150' roll of radiant barrier good insulation for it ?
by|Feb 5, 2024

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Kathie! Very cool project that you are working on there. Based off your measurements, I would say that you need a little more radiant barrier to insulate your container. 1433.6 is the needed square feet for your container. 1350 sq. ft. is the amount of insulation available on a 9'x150' roll.

A:  I’ve used double sided tape in my rv. Wipe walls and it holds well. Harbor freight sells he tape for $2.00.

A:  Hi Donna! We recommend the Everbilt Foil Tape to adhere your insulation to your wall or possibly stapling the edges if needed.

A:  Hi Henry - it depends on where you apply the insulation. Check out our products label to see what R-value coincides with your application.

A:  Answer from Manufacturer was to to check the product label, which it conveniently does not supply. HD pictures do not focus on the label. While it is a good product you may only get R-3 out of it. (R-21 if you wrap yourself in it several times lol.)

              Very wastefull
Good example of a fine product that is partially ruined by stickers. This is PURE CRAP! You will waste about 2 feet on every roll if you dont want this unsightly issue, which in my case is AN ISSUE! Will be USING SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR THE NEXT TIME.

Hi Ginny. Very sorry for your experience with our roll. We are adjusting this internally to reduce the label size and also use adhesive that pulls away easier. We're sorry it didn't work out this time, but we appreciate you letting us know your issue.

                Great insulation
This product is a roll of six inch wide insulation that can be used just about anywhere one needs to protect against the weather. With the polar vortex coming, I used it to wrap my outside pipes. I used duck tape to secure it in place and had not problem with the pipes freezing despite the temperature being in the low teens for several days. That is a complete win for me.

Jbb49, that is music to our ears. That polar vortex had no chance freezing those pipes with our product. This review is a complete win for us, thank you!

                Does the job
Nice simple radiant barrier pipe insulation. I have tried this model along with some self-adhesive models and both offer the radiant protection. This Everbuilt model has all the qualities that are required but I had more difficulty with this model to keep tight to the pipe. I ended up trying to run longer and more narrow strips to keep a smoother line then adding some foil tape. My picture show the look in a linear fashion. Need more foil tape to ensure a better wrap. This is a good wrap if you have great exposure to your pipes.

                Basic Protection
This 6" x 25' roll of Everbilt double reflective, radiant barrier pipe insulation provides basic protection against freezing temperatures on exposed or vulnerable pipes. I wrapped pipes in my well house with this roll. It's a bit tricky to do in tight spaces because of the length. I don't think it's the best value in insulation, frankly, but it seems to do the job for which it was intended. I used aluminum tape to secure it to the pipe. I can't comment on durability as it's only been a few weeks since I installed it.

Hi there - thank you for review. This information is very helpful internally looking towards product innovation.
                Decent Barrier and Pipe Insulation
This is a decent strip of radiant pipe insulation, note that the material does not have a lot of insulation value and is more intended as a barrier for reflecting energy back to its source. This roll is constructed with two sheets of a plastic/foil material with an array of round buttons on its inside, similar in feel to bubble wrap. Note that this roll has not means of attaching itself, such as adhesive etc, so you will need to provide your own. Instructions were included, but were poorly photocopied and were therefore difficult to read.

Best used on a straight length of pipe
This pipe insulation comes in a roll. No directions come with it. I cut a two-foot length and wrapped it around the water pipe coming out of my hot water heater. It needed a piece of masking tape to hold it together in place — it does not hold its shape after you wrap it. It is not as easy to apply as foam insulation that fits over a pipe. I could not feel the heat of the pipe through the silver insulation. And I cannot feel the heat of a hot water pipe through foam insulation. This silver pipe insulation. would be best used on a straight length of pipe to which you have good access, that is, the pipe to be insulated is not closer than a few inches to a wall, a ceiling, a floor or another pipe, a stud or an electric wire.

Hi Peter - this is a very helpful review. We would recommend making sure that there is overlap when wrapping to ensure there is no air space. It also noted that it could be helpful having an install instruction sheet added.

                SMALL JOB INSULATION
Having an outside purification system, I originally covered the 3/4" pvc. pipe with 1/2" wall pipe insulation, see pics., not so much to protect from the cold, but from the heat. The system faces South, and after almost 3 years the insulation is drying out. Rarely, but we do have cold enough temps. to raise concerns even in Tampa, FL. I used all of the 25-foot roll and was short about 18" but used insulative tape to finish. This is time consuming, from start to finish it took 2.5 hours. My only concern is how well the insulation will hold up in a hot humid sun. May have to paint it. I used Radiant Barrier insulative tape for joints and seams. It doesn't tear like regular foil tape and has to be cut to length, which added time. It is well insulated; durability is the only issue. For bare pipe depending on your needs, you could always double it for greater protection, plus it would go a lot farther.

                Easy-to-Use Pipe Insulation
I got this pipe insulation to insulate the copper hot water line leaving my water heater. Our water heater is in the basement, but we have two bathrooms on the second floor of our house, and I wanted to retain as much heat in the water lines as possible. I have a few parts of the run where tubular foam pipe wrap will not work, and this foil insulation is perfect for that job. It basically consists of thin bubble wrap with silver reflective layers on both sides. It's very flexible and easy to manipulate. You can cut it with a razor knife or even a pair of scissors. I would recommend reflective tape to seal the wrap ...I already had some from a previous project, but Everbilt sells their brand, too. I used zip ties in a couple spots and those worked great. Perfect solution for what I was trying to accomplish!

                Pipe insulation
This pipe insulation is designed to be a radiant barrier from the sun. It will also give an added layer of protection during the winter with an underpayment of regular insulation. This is easy to install but you have to use tape to keep it in place. The product will reflect the sun to help protect your pipes. It is a great addition to your regular insulation for the protection of your pipes.

Hi there! Thank you for your review. Yes, our pipe insulation does need tape in order to be secured in place, but once it place, it should work great to help protect your pipes.
