Questions & Answers

Can more rods be added to extend the reach past 12 feet?

I am considering buying a second kit and use the rods from that kit to get a reach of 20 feet that I need.
Asked by: TomW
I also ended up buying 2 kits, but it was worth it. Also, I used 22 feet of tube and could insert it myself. I only used the drill on the last 2 feet I inserted each time, until I met with some resistance. Then I would put the drill on the end and try to advance further. I didn't have anyone to help so this is the way I did it. If I went another 2 feet, I added another tube and attached the drill again. I think the tubing would be flopping all around it you try to insert all of the tubes at once with a drill.

Can this be used for pellet stove pipe?

Asked by: Darren
I'd guess yes. It's built for a 4 inch pipe, but would probably be OK down to 3". As long as the pipe is cool, I'd try it.

Are the plastic extensions flexible? We have two turns in our exhaust pipe.

Are the plastic extensions flexible? We have two turns in our exhaust pipe.
Asked by: pb
I thing it depends on how spaced out the two turns are and if they are at the beginning of exhaust pipe, if these apply, then it should

We bought a home with a long dryer vent, far longer than it should have been. After so many years of use, the vent was a serious fire hazard, it was so full of lint. I had my doubts about this product, thinking that it would not be able to go around corners or would just be cheap. But, it turned out to be the best thing ever! It completely cleaned out the 20+ foot vent (I actually bought 2 kits so I could go longer than 12 feet). I took a full garbage bag of lint out of that vent. It went around 90 degree bends with no problems. I restored the long vent to it's original purpose of a bathroom fan vent and installed a new, shorter run, dryer vent. I'll keep this tool handy though, as it'll be great for cleaning the new vent every couple of years. I'd totally recommend this for any home where there's a slightly longer than normal dryer or exhaust vent.

I kept the dryer fan running with no heat to help blow the lint wads out as they came loose so that they would not pack together into one big clump which would be difficult to coax out the end of the duct. I've seen ducts get so constricted with a heavy blanket of lint that it jammed the duct to the point it could not be dislodged without removing or replacing the flexible duct. Had friends house partially burn down from the lint catching fire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best vent cleaning brush I've used The nylon rods are very durable, but don't push it! Cleaned out my dryer vent only to find that it was almost completely blocked in a small 6 inch spot right in the middle. I used a 30 inch brush but it must have pushed most of it to the center. I initially used this brush by hand, which worked until I hit the dreaded spot. After muscling through it, I gave up and attached the brush to a drill. It powered right through the blocked point and pushed it out the other end. I used a vacuum I had to blast air through the vent to get the rest of the loose pieces out. This vacuum can blow air too, quite forcefully but it never pushed this blockage out. I definitely do not regret buying this. It's a home saver for sure! I'm surprised I didn't have a fire break out. If your dryer just gets hot but takes a long time to dry, buy one of these, now!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but could be better This cleaning brush works pretty good if you don't have a severe clog in your vent pipe. It would be a much better product if it included a stiff corkscrew fitting for the end that the brush goes on for situations where you have a large clump of lint (or the remnants of a bird's nest) lodged in your vent pipe or wall duct. Having a corkscrew type fitting would allow someone to drill it into the blockage and pull it out of the pipe. The brush that is included works great as long as the lint is not lumped into a ball inside the pipe, but if there is a LOT of lint, the brush can actually cause it to be pushed down into a problem "clump" that I described earlier. Once that happens, the brush won't be able to move the blockage and just compacts it more. FYI: Also be advised that it your vent goes up through your roof instead of out through a wall, birds can and will try to get into the vent cover and build a nest on top of your vent pipe. If not caught in time, this can cause a major backup of lint into your vent piping..

This is a good tool and can save you money both from prematurely needing to replace your dryer and immediately from the $50 plus cost to have someone else to clean your dryer vent. The down side is I found the connectors were a little hard to undo once you pulled the joints back out of the vent. I had to use a pair of pliers to release a couple of them. Before the next use I will coat the thread with a little grease. If it was not for that I would have given it an excellent rating.

After watching a couple of YouTube videos I completed the job in about 30 minutes. I bought 2 because I wasn't sure how much length I would need because my exit is out the roof. Ended up needing 2 sticks out of the 2nd package. I did tape each connection which I recommend. My wife told me It was taking up to two hours to dry a load of clothes, now 20 minutes. Money saved on running dryer shorter time will have this paid for quickly.

"If the brush comes off, buy another kit and push the other brush out so you don't have to crawl under the house." While the instructions are in big bold print about not reversing screwdriver, a big sticker on the package really might be more effective. A twist lock design might be a better choice as opposed to screwing it together since it is very easy to accidentally reverse direction or be tempted to go the other way when it gets stuck.

The finish on the rods and the ends is quite slick. That is good for keeping any lint debris from sticking to them, however it was too slippery to try and twist with bare hands. I was skeptical about how well it would work with a drill, but it worked just fine. The brush got my vents clean. I would suggest the manufacturer include some type of T-handle that threads into the end for turning it by hand.
