What size screws do I need to fasten the clothes rod in place on the hook?

Asked by ZRS October 14, 2020

A #8 pan head screw will work. The length of the screw will depend on the diameter of the rod you choose to use. Don't use a screw that's so long it will go all the way through the rod, just something to hold the rod in place.

What hardware would I attach this to a metal stud with?

I would suggest #8 or #10 sheet metal screws that are 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" long, assuming that you are going through 1/2" or 5/8" drywall.

What size screws are needed

We recommend using #14 x 1-1/2" and #12 x 3/4" screws for this shelf bracket and rod support.

I need an 18” Deep shelf. Can I use these brackets for that and still Be able to use the rod?

For the shelf bracket and rod support it is recommended that the shelf depth does not exceed 2 inches passed the shelf bracket. This bracket’s shelf depth is 11 inches. An 18 inch shelf would not be recommended.

I bought 2 of these shelf bracket/rod-supports for a 72” metal rod. How do I keep the rod from sliding off the end? Seems to need a set screw.

There should be a hole under the curved end of the bracket that you can put a screw through to hold the rod in place. That will also help keep the rod from tipping or coming off the bracket if the weight is at one end or no weight is on the rod at all.

could i use this on a shelf with a depth of 18 inches?

No - it will not connect securely to be able to hold any real weight. You could put it on the wall right beside the track system rails so it blends in.

Love this product.. Over quarantine we did a closet make over since I had to work from home I needed a space for a desk in my room and that meant reorganizing my room and closet the only location to put a desk was an area by my closet that had a department store clothes rack which was holding my over flow of clothes I needed that area so I came up with getting rid of my old rack and bought two Everbilt poles and four Everbilt shelf brackets to re-due my closet and it came out great!

My dad was an iron worker and always made brackets for the house and garage. He has since retired and I needed to hang some shelves. These are very sturdy! I put up three shelves, thus far, and will be buying a few more. NAD

(What's this)
This shelf and rod support is made from heavy steel and is rated for 150 pounds. The black finish is smooth and looks great. There are pre-drilled holes for the fasteners to attach it to the wall and also to prevent the shelf and clothes rod from moving. It is made from a single piece of steel, with a brace rod that is welded on, and I have no doubts it will support the amount of weight claimed! With that in mind, I recommend mounting it to a wall stud using the #14 screws recommended (not included). If wall anchors must be used be sure they are rated for the amount of weight you anticipate these brackets to carry!

(What's this)
This is exactly the product I needed for my closet, at an amazingly-low price. My old shelf support was the modular type, and it simply fell apart over time and wasn't holding anything up. This low-cost replacement dropped right in. It had the exact same standard dimensions: 10" from top to bottom, 11" to the end of the shelf support, 12" to the middle of the rod support. I particularly liked that the screw holes are offset, which helps get your power drill and driver in without needing an extreme angle. The only screw you can't affix this way is the top-rear screw, which use a drop-in design to make it easier to use (you can affix the screw almost all the way, drop in the bracket, and then tighten down). There's even a screw hole for affixing the wooden rod, if you want to use it. Just one installation note: the screw holes are quite large, so you'll either need to use washers, or screws with fairly large heads. The website says use with #14 x 1-1/2 in. and #12 x 3/4 in. screws, but I simply used the screws I had on hand.

We purchased these when we remodeled our closets. I am surprised at how much weight these can hold up. We have lots of boxes on the shelves and clothes hanging from the bar and these have been great. The price point for these cannot be beat considering how well they perform.
