Thank you for your comments. Like most evergreens, Douglasfir does prefer a slightly acidic soil. We start with a lower pH and during production it does creep up. If you are potting into a larger container I would suggest a good quality potting mix. Most mixes will be neutral to slightly acidic. If the pH is too high, it can be lowered by adding sulfur to the soil. Add a very small amount. The sulfur should have some guidelines on how much to add by soil volume. Just as important as soil pH is soil moisture. Most evergreens prefer moist but not wet soils. Constantly wet soil will cause root rot problems. Let the soil become dry and then water thoroughly. Finally, Douglasfir is a fast growing species. Adding a slow release fertilizer will maintain fertility levels necessary for good growth. Thank you again and I hope you enjoy your Douglasfir.
They are shipped from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin (evergreen nursery co).
