Are the clamping surfaces made of cast or stamped metal, and what about the base? Also, does the saw include a v-shaped adapter for clamping round stock?
Asked by: Perry
The base and clamps are cast. It is a well built tool.

Does the saw come with the mild steel blade or does it come without any blades?

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Tinkerer
Mild steel and it last a good while. I estimate that I got between 740 and 800 cuts on 1 1/2" schedule 40 pipe. Around $.10 a cut.

Great saw but when I bought this I only knew of a 15" saw and they all come with a 14" blade. That's what I thought I was buying and when ordering the salesperson read back the order to me and I verified with her that I was ordering a 15" saw shipped with a 14" blade and the response was, "Oh yes, I see that now." Needless to say, I was delivered a 14" saw. It's a fine saw that I recommend but the 15" is available for the same price from other sources online and some include free shipping also. Again, I recommend the saw but I don't recommend Home Depot as a source for the saw. The only complaint I have is with the accuracy of and access to the index on the vice. It could easily be much better. I bought this because my DeWalt fiber blade chop saw died and I've owned others before and the accuracy of the index is typical--not better than the others but no worse either. An Acme thread on the vice would be better than the screw thread but it hasn't caused any problems. The heavy cast iron base and vice is a joy to use over the stamped metal used on the other brands. The metal blade doesn't have the "wandering" issues of a fiber blade so accuracy of the cut is much better and there hasn't been any issues with the blade loading up like fiber blades can and quit cutting. This saw is not a shop cut off saw but it's also not a very expensive, 220V, 3 phase saw that requires a fork lift to move.

First job was making 30 cuts of 1/2" EMT, burrs if any were removed by a finger touch. Next job was 8 cuts of 1/4" × 4" bar, burrs were also minor. Third job was 20 cuts of 2" Square Tube with 1/16" wall with very little burr. I an exceedingly pleased with this purchase, my abrasive saw will only get used on suspect junk metal from now on and my torch won't ever get used. The most important thing for me is square and true cuts and this saw delivered, almost burr free is a bonus. This one has cast base which was important to me after using several abrasive saws with stamped bases.

It is far far better than an abrasive saw. Clean edges that are coil to the touch. The actual fence is taller and closer to the blade than my old saw. This makes cutting short stock easier. It has an adapter for round stock but I cut 3" tubing without it just fine. It had 3 feet sticking out without slipping. Old saw couldn't do that. Cons: The switch has a safety button that is hard to use if you're left handed like me. Thereally is a sticking spot when you first pull the handle down. It doesn't have any holes to be able to bolt it down.

It does not cut as smooth as a bandsaw with coolant but it is a nice cut! We bought a Multi-purpose blade as well and use that most of the time and this makes it a very versatile tool to cut ALMOST anything. This is for MILD Steel only meaning no hardened or stainless steel. We use it cutting Unistrut, conduit, aluminum stock and even wood.

There is no comparison between this saw and the old abrasive saws. Night and day difference between my dewalt and this evolution saw. Cuts ten times faster and more accurately. Cuts are cool to touch. No more hot sparks flying all over the shop. I would ask “ why haven’t you order your’s yet??”

The Evolution 380 metal cutting saw with the metal cutting saw blade was faster and more accurate at cutting steel/aluminum stock than my chop saw with abrasive wheel. Table is not completely flat across all surfaces, slightly lower on far left, but flat across the three that are critical, so cuts are accurate enough. That's the reason there's not five stars here. Read a LOT of reviews of this saw who all mentioned that the table was flat. Ugh.

I have used the abrasive type saw for many years and the dust that it created in my shop no doubt is not healthy. This saw cuts through the metal that I use in half the time and best of all there is no heat build up.
