Will this blade cut cast iron pipe?

If so how many cuts can the blade make in cast iron? Mostly 2in. - 4in. pipe we are using.
Asked by: toolguy
It cuts cast iron like butter! I'm not sure how many cuts you will get through pipe. One blade should out cut 10 -12 abrasive wheels. But it cuts so much faster and the blade doesn't get smaller and smaller. You don't have to get creative on how to make the last couple of cuts. You know, keep rotating the piece to get the most out of the wheel.

Are the clamping surfaces made of cast or stamped metal, and what about the base? Also, does the saw include a v-shaped adapter for clamping round stock?
Asked by: Perry
Yes! The clamping surfaces are cast and so is the base and yes there is a v-shaped adapter for round and you can use it for square tubing as well.

14 in. Steel Cutting Chop Saw is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 71.

I set it at 45 degrees, per the markings on the saw, but found those to be off by (est) 2 degrees. Used a t-square (with 45 angle) to set the miter angle. Once set, wow, the 14-inch (supplied with saw) cut through the steel within 15 seconds (instructions say not to force it, let the saw do the work). I've used abrasive blade saws previously and this toothed-blade left a MUCH cleaner cut (no deburring was necessary except for a bevel for welding) and was probably a bit faster. I used earmuffs, but the saw is quieter than an abrasive type. Watching the blade turn so 'slowly' was different ! I'm looking forward to using it again soon. Worth the price, if you do a fair amount of cutting. The vice was adequate for the square tubing (the saw comes with an angle piece used to better grip round items, haven't tried it yet, but would be good for metal fenceposts (if you need to miter or cut-to-length).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Saw works well and cuts at 90 degrees. We work... Saw works well and cuts at 90 degrees. We work with a lot of tubing and the 90 degree cut is important for good fit up for welding. Only problem with the saw was that when cutting off a short piece, the piece was thrown up into the guard, jammed and broke the guard housing. Needs a redesign to have the guard come down from the top, instead of wrapping around the bottom of the saw.

I have used this chop saw for a year now and have to say it has done an excellent job on cutting mild steel. The thickest i have used it for was 2 1/2 squar tub 3/16 thick and it has done very well. Oh course you want to cut slow and easy so the blade will last you longer. I am now building a trailer and have used to cut 2 inch square tubing 1/8 thick with no problems. 45 degree cuts are easy as well and i love the square tube attachment which allows you to make straight cuts on square tube on its side which make cutting smoother. See the attached image. Its now been a year and im going to order a new blade today.
