About This Product

FLEXIMOUNTS overhead garage racks feature an integrated grid design where the wire grid is welded to the support frame. This design increases the stability of the rack over traditional bolt-down grids. The FLEXIMOUNTS rack is adjustable so you can position it over your garage overhead door where space is sometimes tight. This is a great location to install an overhead rack because it usually is unused space. Move your large bulky items off the ground to protect them from damage. Boxes on the ground will eventually get dirty, water damaged, deteriorate, or even attract insects.

  • 450 lbs. weight capacity
  • Grid is welded to frame to provide superior stability
  • Ceiling brackets are long enough to span 2 ceiling joists for added strength
  • Scratch-resistant powder coat finish
  • Heavy-duty cold roll steel material used in construction
  • Height adjusts from 22 in. to 40 in. below the ceiling to help you fit over your overhead garage door
  • Top quality M8 bolts are included
  • Lifetime warranty provides peace of mind (extended to original purchaser and not transferable)

Q:How long does it take (roughly) to install this?
by|Jul 10, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hi Emily, roughly 2 hours per rack. We recommend 2 people for this project. The longest part is locating the studs in your ceiling. Sometime those can be very tricky to find!

Instructions need to account for different constructions
Solid Construction but instructions don't really give guidance. They assume ceiling studs are exactly 18" in apart. When installing, the ceiling mounted have to be mounted to account for longer distances between studs.

Solid overhead garage storage especially mounted to wall
The 6x3 rack was perfect for my space. The directions are clear and concise. Definitely use an impact driver or drill to put it together and mount it. The hex bolts seem to be 5 mm and the nuts and bolts are are 13 mm. A right angle attachment for my impact driver came in handy to connect the 3 platforms together, as my drill nor driver would fit. I chose to mount mine attached to the wall vs hanging from the ceiling on all 4 corners. I am sure that the way I did it probably invalidates any warranty, but it is solid as a rock and probably able to hold more weight than if completely ceiling mounted. Due to the placement of the studs/joists in the wall of my garage, I only had this option if I wanted it on or close to the wall. I mounted one side to the ceiling joists (as indicated in the mounting instructions) and the other side to the wall. Unless my stud finder is faulty, i did not trust any mounting points in the ceiling where it meets the wall. I hemmed and hawed about the best way to mount to the wall and ended up going simple -- I just attached a 2x4 with 3.5 inch wood screws into the 5 available studs and the rack rests on it. I had to go slightly wider than the rack to hit all 5 studs, but I wanted to ensure it was solid. Measure carefully and double check the height for the 2x4 before mounting to the wall by having someone help you put the rack up to verify it will be level. Anyway, after mounting the 2x4 to the wall and putting the rack on, you will notice that the corners will be about 1/8" raised. This is because there is a support bar on each side of the rack that strengthens the connection of the 3 platform pieces, and it extends/wraps down under the steel bars of the platforms. If I had thought about it, I would have just used my router to cut out 1/8" of the top/back of the 2x4 mount so that it would have been flush all the way across. It probably does not matter, but I had some thick washers laying around so I put one under the corners (see pics) and secured in place with screws. I also drilled 2 holes in the rack and attached it directly to 2 studs in the wall with 3" wood screws. On the ends, I used the available holes and used a 3.5 inch wood screw to connect it to the 2x4. YMMV depending on the spacing of your studs etc, but this is what worked for me and it is solid as a rock.

We are missing 4 parts in each box. Can't believe that it is incomplete. My handyman is working with the store to find a solution

Very sturdy & well made. Would be 5 stars except the bolts that are used at the top shouldn't be flat on one end. A hex or traditional bolt style would work well. Had to use some pliers to hold them in place while I tightened them.

The shelf was well-packaged with the screws, nuts, and bolts clearly labeled in separate sections of the packaging. The instructions were clear and it works great as additional storage space above my kayak in the storage unit.
