About This Product

Pampas grass is a very popular ornamental grass that is easy to grow. This ornamental grass consists of attractive oversized arching grass-like foliage and will produce beautiful airy, creamy white feathery plumes from mid-summer to fall. In winter, the foliage will turn tan-bronze and can be left to create winter interest before being trimmed back in early spring to re-emerge with fresh foliage.Additionally, it is hardy from USDA Zones 7-11. This selection is often used as an accent, screen, hedge, or large ground cover in the landscape.Pampas is a full-sunlight plant and requires 6+ hours of direct sunlight daily. It will tolerate filtered sunlight or part shade, but the foliage and plumes may suffer greatly. This ornamental grass will thrive in nearly any garden condition and adapts to almost any location it is planted. Ornamental grasses are to be watered once every 2 weeks during the first growing season. Not much water is required, so be sure not to overwater your plants. During periods of extreme drought watering 2-3 times per week may be necessary. No watering is required after the plant is well established.

Answer This Question

A:  Yes, Pampas Grass (Cortaderia selloana) is indeed an ornamental flowering grass that is perennial in nature. It is known for its tall plume-like flower heads that emerge in late summer to early fall and can persist through winter in milder climates. Pampas Grass is prized for its dramatic appearance and is commonly used in landscaping to provide texture, privacy screening, and as a focal point in gardens. It requires full sun and well-drained soil to thrive and can be a low-maintenance addition to a landscape once established.

Q:When is the best time to plant these in WI?
    by|May 24, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  The best time to plant Pampas grass in Wisconsin is in the spring, after the last frost, to give it the entire growing season to establish its roots. However, Pampas grass is not ideally suited for Wisconsin's climate, as it thrives in USDA Hardiness Zones 7-11 and Wisconsin falls into Zones 3-5. The cold winters in Wisconsin can damage or kill Pampas grass, making it a challenging plant to grow successfully in that region. Consider planting more cold-hardy ornamental grasses that can better withstand Wisconsin's harsh winters.

        Q:What zone are Chillicothe
        by|Apr 18, 2024
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Chillicothe, Ohio, is located in USDA Hardiness Zone 6a. While Pampas Grass (Cortaderia selloana) is generally hardy in Zones 7-11, it can tolerate Zone 6 with some winter protection. In colder climates like Zone 6, Pampas Grass may experience dieback of foliage during winter months, but it typically regrows in spring or could perish altogether. To improve its chances of survival in Zone 6, consider planting Pampas Grass in a sheltered location, providing a thick layer of mulch around the base for insulation, and wrapping the foliage with burlap or other protective covering during extreme cold snaps. With proper care and winter protection, Pampas Grass can still thrive and add ornamental value to gardens in Chillicothe, Ohio, but you might consider finding a ornamental grass that is better suited for your environment.

          5 days after delivery dying?
Not sure they are supposed to look like this, are they dying? I let them sit for a couple days, watered them and now turning brown. Should i be asking for a refund?

              Not white as promised
I was very excited when I found this plant in early spring as I have been wanting the white pampas grass bloom look in my garden. I purchased 6 plants and care for them all summer, waiting for once again, white flowers. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED at the moment, only one plant produced flowers (3 to be exact) and they are PINK! This is a scam! Why is HomeDepot falsely advertising??? 3 other plants are not doing so well, hopefully they will survive the winter.

Not really. The first plant I bought died so I bought a second. It’s not growing much either. The lemongrass that I bought grew like crazy. Not sure what to expect.

These came in great shape and well packaged. I hope I can get them planted before March 2021 ends. Looking forward to the giant plumes.
