I am looking to update my existing laminate countertop without buying new countertops. Would it work well to sand down the existing laminate, cut new laminate sheets to size, install new laminate with adhesive without buying a countertop brand new?
Thank you for contacting Formica. You may install one layer over an existing layer of laminate provided : 1 the top must be a square edge top 2 the existing top is down tight 3 all holes must be filled and sanded smooth prior to installing new laminate 4 you must use solvent based contact cement. Any water based adhesive will cause the top to fail. You will need to read Formica's Technical Brief for re-surfacing laminate.
