This is a half inch blue foam to put down before carpeting. It has a thick plastic coating on both sides, making is moisture resistant. The foam is pretty dense and sturdy. It does not tear when you grab it and you can cut it with scissors or an utility knife. It is a great value for the price and makes any carpet feel more plush, as well as insulates floors that may be cold in the winter.

This is nice carpet padding but still a little too squishy for my liking. Would like for it to be a bit firmer to maybe hold up longer under the carpet but it's comfortable to walk on. It is definitely waterproof. Our dogs are not 100% potty trained so the waterproof feature is the most important factor for us. The moisture barrier is on both sides so it also stops moisture from the bottom. We used the scraps in the garden to stop weeds. Works great for that! It arrived in a well wrapped and sealed plastic bag inside of a large box. The box wasn't in the best condition when it got here due to the weight of the product but the actual product was fine.

Perfect under area rugs with pets, kids, or other craziness in the house that will likely result in a big spill hitting the carpet. The flexible yet moisture-proof barrier (both sides!) will keep spills from reaching your hardwood or subfloor, saving you from mold issues and expensive repairs or cleanups (make sure you get real underlayment tape to connect the edges). This one is on the lighter grade of stiffness, so ensure your carpet/rug can handle the flex of normal foot traffic (most wall-to-wall carpet will do better with stiffer foam that keeps the carpet backing from stressing and pulling apart). The 8# jug I set on it upside down compressed it about halfway, and with a 2 sq.in. cap, that's only 4 psi; for comparison, if your heel is twice that size and you weigh 200#, that's 50 psi. You can compress it to near zero thickness with your fingers with medium effort. Has a very light new-carpet smell that dissipates fairly quickly and arrives plastic-wrapped and boxed in a 6x45-ft roll. Nice to know my carpet isn't resting on a sponge that's just waiting to absorb and trap liquid accidents!

It's for a very "select few" that I can recommend this product.
First, it's not even close to being a 'premium' carpet pad. At 1.6 lbs/sq yd, it's about 1/4 the 'heft' of a premium pad. And you will feel that 'under foot'. Applying about 4 lbs/sq in of force, i.e. a 160-lb man walking in a size 10 shoe will fully compress the pad [down to about 1/16"] ... and you definitely feel that loss of resiliency immediately. And remember, the carpets going to weight at least 4 lbs/sq yd.
Second, I have to question the efficacy of a moisture barrier on both sides. Here's my thinking. [1] if the upper the barrier's intact, the carpet absorbs the spill and it'll dry out. [2] if the upper barrier is compromised, the spill is absorbed by a 'sponge' and who knows how long it'll take to dry out; and forget about vacuuming up the spill. [3] if both vapor barriers are compromised, the spill migrates to the underlayment where it's essentially 'sealed in" for a very long time.
The key performance metric here is "how durable are these barriers"; the side facing the OSB sub floor is going to be chaffed with every footstep!.
So, about the only people I'd recommend this to is landlords who have to deal with pet "accidents" and install only FHA-grade carpeting ... and tear it up and throw it away every 3 years.

Feels great under foot. We tested the pad under different rugs and carpets and it always improved the comfort greatly in every case. We have many area rugs throughout the house, and getting this roll was the most logical.
This will also be used for area rugs in throughout house including the basement and the double sided moisture barrier is one of the main reasons we selected it. The R value of 2 is small but along with the carpet will add to keeping our feet warmer in the basement. It also has 4 lb density so average support.
Since the basement is concrete this is perfect as it is approved for concrete.
Installation is just cut and place under the desired rug. I cut the padding with a pair of scissors, which was very easy. The roll is 45 foot by 6 foot wide for 270 sq feet. Most area rugs are less than 6 foot on at least one side so easy to cut single sections. Cut about 1 1/2 inches from the edges so the rug holds it down and there is minimal bump to reduce tripping.
The half inch thickness is more than carpet requires but our area rugs are heavy and being foam it compressed so not to be raised. It seems great to us.
We love the extra cushion, just amazing. I'm now being pressured to get the other rugs done. Should have done this along time ago.

My experience with this product will be broken into favorable and unfavorable factors:
Favorable - no unpleasant off-gassing experiences upon rolling onto floor.. Thickness requires tight edge tacking to avoid mid-span carpet "bunching up". Padding very soft.
Unfavorable - "spillsafe double-sided moisture barrier" - shielding split in places on unrolling and at edges

Nice, thick carpet padding with good rebound. It is lighter than the foam chunk stuff. It also cut cleaner and easier. The feel is quite good. It seems to return to it’s original shape well after Being compressed. I used it on a wood floor and it stapled down well. It can be installed with either side down, so you don’t have to pat attention to which side you have it on. Overall I am very pleased.

Although this may normally be used beneath wall to wall carpet I chose to use it under a large area rug in our den making it much more comfortable for sure. The pictures below sometimes show the padding as almost white but it's definitely light blue. I also used Ultra Grip Nonslip Rug Gripper Pad under this padding to keep it from slipping. Much more comfortable now and as it's usually when our dogs lie down they love it too!!

This 6' x 45' roll of carpet padding arrived wrapped in plastic sheeting and weighed about 50 lbs. The thickness is around 3/8". It is installed patterned side face up.
I never knew what I was missing using a low-profile rug pad in the past! This padding is amazing and I have placed it under almost all of my carpeting and runners. When the floor is waxed, this pad will slide if not placed under any heavy furniture. For those areas, I used double-sided carpet tape to keep it in place. For my rugs, I have cut the pad about 2" shorter than the rug sits flat around the edges.
I would definitely recommend this pad. The only difficulty I had was figuring the measurements I needed. I just can't believe how much my old feet appreciate the softness when walking on it!

Exactly what I was looking for. This is a non-traditional use, but it meets my requirements. I have all hard-surface floors with a lot of area rugs (almost every size imaginable). On their own they have very little cushion to them and pretty much need an underlay. I could shop around for all kinds of different sizes or order a large roll of this and cut to size for all my area rugs. My only concern was height, thinking it might produce a trip hazard. As it turns out not a problem, if this product is about 1.5 to 2 inches inside the edge of the area rug it allows the rug to sit directly on the hard surface and doesn't interfere whatsoever. The result is a nicely cushioned area rug. I was also mildly worried about it moving around, but this underlay actually stops a jute backed carpet from sliding around. In general, it's very similar to a yoga mat material. Perfect for what I need.
