Q:Why do companies decide they need a new bit type with their fastner. So the consumer can spend more money.

Answer This Question
A:Â The Spider Drive was developed as an alternative to 6-lobe options. It provides greater vertical locking features than many of the star shaped options that tend to be a "sloppy" fit inside the recess. We do provide a free bit in every package, multiple bits in our larger quantities. The two-pack of bits you inquired about are meant to provide an option to customers who lose the original bit. It also is designed to accept both a #3 Phillips or #3 square drive as an additional option.

A:Â I'd say this is larger than even the T20. It will be too big for your application.
by|Jul 31, 2018
A:Â "compared to?" a completely different type of bit. Square, Phillips, Flat, Torx, Spider.
Go look at your Torx bits and fasteners, and count the ribs. If they have 6, they are Torx, NOT Spider.

A:Â I doubt this will fit. I have a Hallmark trailer with screws with an 8 point head. Torx doesn't make a bit between 15 and 20T. I used a #2 Robertson screwdriver, which worked fine. If the screw is too tight or rusted in, I used a pair of vice grips to loosen it, then used the Robertson. Worked great.

What can I say, these are just another screw driver tip. Sure they bite well, I'll give it that. But what a pain I had. Got way over to a job site and didn't realize the screws I had purchased earlier had this type of drive, so I had to drive all the way back to H.D. to pick up yet another tip. I've never heard of this bit type until now. Not a good first impression but can't curse too loudly.

These bits do the job but care still needs to be taken inasmuch as they can still strip the head of the screw -- and, poor technique can also wear down the bit making it less than optimal.

Another driver tip needed
They grip the screw nice and tight. Good and sturdy driving the screw in.

I had to buy them because the package of Headlok screws I bought did not include a bit. How many different types of bits do we need? The "T-" style star bits work just fine. Well, they don't work on these Headlok screws...

We apologize for your experience. The Spider bits are proprietary to the HeadLOKs to ensure a tighter grip so they are less likely to strip or spin out. Please email us at customerservice@bazaarvoice.com, if you have any further questions.

The screws and spider drive bit worked great, I would suggest that you some how make sure that the screws and driver bits are located in the same place, or identified that you need both to use your product. I found screws, saw that they needed a different driver and then had to look for the driver bits, was not as easy as it could be. I would highlight the bits, and screws in the same area.

The item itself was fine. I am tweaked that after purchasing the HeadLok screws, I had to purchase the proprietary driver bit as an additional item. This effectively doubled the price of my project.

Bits are included in each package. Sounds like your package didn't come with bits. Please reach out to us at; orders@fastenmaster.com with your contact information and I'll send you a package of bits. Be sure to mention the missing headlok bits.

These bits work great. And the associated screws are great as well. I used some 8" screws to repair the planter around one of our trees. Drove the screws in with no problem using this bit.
