Answer This Question
A: Hardware cloth is a rectangular mesh, like a screen, made from criss-crossed galvanized steel wire. The openings in the mesh are usually 1/4" or 1/2". It is commonly available in widths from 1 to 5 feet and lengths from 10 to 100 feet. It is often used for fencing, but can also be used to build plant cages, window screens, animal pens and screens to remove stones and debris from soil.

A: Wire mesh, woven in either square or rectangular grid, usually made of galvanized or stainless steel. Used the either keep things contained (i.e. making chicken pens) or to keep animals out (mouse or rat proofing a home/garage). Hardware cloth comes in different thicknesses (gauges) usually 1/4 or 1/2 inch.

A: Hardware cloth is wires that forms a mesh, a window screen is an example. The size openings are usually a square or rectangle measurement. The size or gage of the wire determines the strength. Hardware Cloth is typically used for fencing and animal enclosures such as Rabbit Cages and Chicken Coops.

Sections are rusty without any zinc coating.
I recommend it because it's cheap.
Not sure I'd recommend it for an animal pen if they are prone to run into the cloth and injure themselves on the sharp globs of zinc all over the place.
Also, had several diagonal 8" x 4" sections where there was no zinc coating at all and were already rusty.
So much for double coating, they missed the same spots twice.
I'm not as worried about the rust, it just means I'll end up replacing those sections sooner.

This fencing wire is just what I needed... couldn't find 3' width in half inch grid anywhere else. This is a picture I made using the wire to back over two dozen vintage tools. It sold the same day I made it. Thanks!

Ordered 30” hardware cloth received 36” so had to spend time cutting it down . The width was to cover a screen door 32” wide and now I will have a rough edge always exposed. The shipping was fast and the product good otherwise.
