        No fault of Home Depot. I didn't read description and got the 2" mesh. I didn't feel up to taking it back so I used it. I am happy with it and the wire tightens really well just wish I had the 1" to keep varmints out.

        The 2 in. wire has more than a 2" opening....
        The 2 in. wire has more than a 2" opening. The opening is 2" high, but the width is definitely wider than 2". Also, the wire is much more flimsy than regular 1" chicken wire. I put it around my garden and hope to keep out some of the "critters."

        The 2" opening is from end to end, which means count inside only.
        But if customers want to keep animals out, just make sure the fence staple on the post, should work fine. FencerWire
