A:  Here is a link to the site with installation instructions: https://firstwatchsecurity.com/?s=1849 Instructions: 1. Position bolt at desired point on door and mark location of screws. 2. Close door and extend bolt. Mark position of bolt on door frame. 3. Use bolt mark on door frame fro strike placement. Two types of strikes are provided; use appropriate strike for door type, recessed or flush. Mark screw holes and fasten strike in place with screws.

A:  I used a standard drill bit for making the hold for the bolt, making sure the drill bit was smaller than the screws provided.

Not pleased - This was pure junk - the hardware could not work as the screw heads were to large to allow the bolt to close over them - I tried to install the first one then placed all three in the rubbish bin. Not even worth returning. Needs to have a "-" rating.

        Poor quality
Sliding mechanism was catching on the screwtops - then the knob and snapped off after I was showing my wife how it works. I guess you get what you pay for.

          Victorian era quality today
I am blown away by the quality of this bolt. Few products have been made with this much care and quality material since the early 20th century. I know because I have been restoring buildings since the 70s. This bolt is solid brass - cast and machined to a precise finished product. The workers who made this should be very proud of their work and I am very happy to use this exceptional hardware in my current restoration.
