This tool is rated for 2" material. I was cutting 1" material and one of the plastic gears broke. Yes this tool has weak plastic gears instead of metal gears.

Great product and from an international company which is headquartered in Finland!!! This lopper works expecially well on green branches. I'm currently working on a project where a large network of thick vines have a strangle hold on my stone fence. This job I'm working now is timeconsuming but this tool will help me reduce the time to complete to at least 1/2. Sawzalls don't work very well because of the branches are green and budded up against the fence. I've also tried some regular hedge trimmers that do not possess the power that this superior tool has. The blade angles nicely around the vines and is made out of titanium. It is so powerful that when the vine is too large, I'm able to cut half of the branch in two places to remove a segment, then continue to remove the 2nd half of the branch. (I hope this makes sense)
I've also purchased a tree trimmer from Fiskars. It wasn't as robust as the Powergear2 lopper. The cutting mechanism broke and Fiskars immediately replaced it without question. Fiskars stands behind all its products. I will continue to purchase tools from this fine company.

I love these trimmers. I have used a few different styles in the past and this gear version is really worth it. I also purchased the smaller version and It works just as good as the larger one but is a littler lighter. I have been using them to clear some brush and vines.

I live on a large property with plenty of trees and wooded area. Back in 1995 I purchased the earlier Fiskars' geared Lopper. It got plenty of use and I was well satisfied with the quality. As time went on, in the recent past couple of years one of the arms started to slip off a few times during use and the gears screws seem to not stay tight. I thought not bad for an over 20 year old Lopper.
Well this season during winter break, I thought about the lifetime warranty. I filled out the website easy form, gave the number on the unit, sent a picture and in just days Fiskar via UPS has sent me their latest Powergear2 Lopper....Way to go Fiskars!
It has higher quality than my original geared Fiskar lopper from 1995. Arms, gear screws, handle and blade are much more rugged. This one will last another 20 years....
I highly recommend Fiskars hand tools!
