About This Product

Our Pruner is the perfect tool for tackling your general pruning needs. Constructed with durable steel, this cutting tool is built to last. The precision-ground steel blade is fully hardened and stays sharp for longer, while the rust-resistant and low-friction coating makes cutting through stems and light branches up to 5/8 in. diameter easier. The handle features non-slip grips and an easy-open lock to keep the blade safe while transporting or storing. Thanks to the self-cleaning sap groove, the blades won't stick and gum up with sap and debris.

Questions & Answers

What hand size are these designed for?
BySep 11, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

The handles are designed to fit most adult hand sizes. If your hand is medium or large, you’ll likely find them comfortable; smaller-handed users may find them a bit bulky or feel like they require more grip stretch.

My fiskar pruner 5/8" gets stuck when opening back up Why?
    ByMar 13, 2025
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

If your 5/8" Classic Bypass Hand Pruning Shears are getting stuck when opening, it could be due to sap buildup, debris in the pivot area, or a need for lubrication. Try cleaning the blades thoroughly, applying a light oil to the pivot, and checking for any signs of wear or damage. If the issue persists, our warranty policy may apply: https://www.fiskars.com/en-us/customer-service/warranties

The blades appear to be sharp but are not cutting. It appears they may be to far apart. How do I adjust the gap?
      ByOct 24, 2024
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Here are some steps you can follow to fix the gap between the blades: Clean the Blades: Ensure the blades are clean and free of sap or debris. Use a cloth and some rubbing alcohol to wipe them down. Tighten the Pivot Bolt: The gap might be due to a loose pivot bolt. Use a wrench to tighten the bolt that holds the blades together. Be careful not to overtighten, as this can make the shears difficult to use. Sharpen the Blades: Dull blades can sometimes cause a gap. Use a sharpening stone or a specialized pruner sharpener to sharpen the blades. Follow the original bevel angle of the blade for best results. Lubricate the Blades: Apply a few drops of oil to the pivot point and the blades to ensure smooth operation. This can also help reduce any gap caused by friction. Check for Damage: Inspect the blades for any bends or damage. If the blades are bent, you might need to carefully straighten them or consider replacing them if the damage is severe. If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it might be worth contacting Fiskars customer service for further assistance or considering a replacement if the shears are still under warranty (warranty@fiskars.com or https://www.fiskars.com/en-us/customer-service/warranties).

          Answer This Question

Thank you for contacting Fiskars. The 5.5 in. Bypass Pruner has a cut capacity of 5/8". If the palm fronds are within that diameter, this product would be ideal.

It does not come with a sheathe. There is a sliding lock to protect the blade when closed. There may be one available but I an not aware of it. I always store tools safely from children.

Broken hinge nut is an M6-1.0 serrated flange nut
For the price point, it’s pretty good. The nut for the hinge bolt on my unit was cast metal or pot metal and broke in three pieces. A M6-1.0 serrated flange nut will put you back in business.

Ordered new item and the item delivered was used. And not even lightly used. What the heck Home Depot. Definitely returning as I would have gone to eBay if I wanted a used item.

That’s definitely disappointing, and we understand why you’d be upset. Receiving a well‑used item when you expected new misses the mark, and that’s not the experience we want tied to this product. We appreciate you calling it out and hope the situation is resolved quickly so you can get a pair that’s actually worthy of getting to work in the garden. Fiskars
This was my second purchase of Fiskars 5/8 in. Cut Capacity Classic Bypass Hand Pruning Shears in the ten years I have been in my location in Central Florida. I was using them on my two pink powder puff trees -- one in the front and one in the back. It sure was nice to have a new pair as the previous pair, which I still use, have gone kind of dull but still work. I used these shears along with a hand saw to do my pruning after we had the major freezes that made my PPP trees crunchy.

                                    Poor quality
I bought this less than a week ago and the spring mechanism malfunctions 3 out of 5 times. I have to manually open the pruners to make the next cut. Very poor quality. I will not buy this brand again. Not worth the hassle.

Terrible quality - blade is bent and clashes
The blade actually hits the otherside, they don't cut but get stuck. Fiskar's lifetime warranty requires me to pay for shipping... took them 8 weeks to even reply. 0/10 never buying from this brand again

We’re sorry the pruning shears didn’t perform as expected, and we understand your frustration. Due to an error that occurred during a recent software transition, there was a backlog in warranty claims that caused delays in response times. Additionally, per our warranty policy, if we request the product be returned, the customer is responsible for the cost of shipping. We know this experience fell short and appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. Fiskars
                                        Replacement parts problem
I have owned two of these bypass pruners for several years and have had no luck getting a replacement locking screw from Fiskars. My most recent warranty request came back asking me to ship the tools back to them at my expense for them to review. I have sent them photos of both tools and all I want are two locking screws to be sent to me so they can honor their "lifetime warranty"

                                          Very bad quality
The sole purpose and function of the pruners is to be able to cut off thin shrub branches. If the brand new tool fails to perform its only job in less than a season, then, in my opinion, the quality of such tool is not adequate to the declared characteristics and, as such, should be replaced upon request with a better quality product. I used this tool to cut off 1/4”-3/8” in diameter branches. The blades are completely dull. Fiskars refuses to exchange the tool.

I loved these pruning shears before one of the screws fell out while I was pruning my flowers. I purchased these shears in November 2022 and I just started to use them this spring (2023). I submitted a warranty claim and hopefully Fiskars will replace them in a timely manner.

So handy & Lightweight - Great Tool
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Fiskars Pruners are GREAT. They are lightweight, but heavy duty enough to get the job done right. I love the way they fit in my hand - feels very natural. I used mine recently to trim bushes in my flower bed. None of the branches were probably over 1/2” thick. They did a fantastic job. I was very pleased with the way they cut right through the branches. The open/lock (safety) button on the pruners is a very simple slide - very convenient to open and lock securely. I would definitely recommend to family and friends.
