    A:  I do not know whether or not this tool is hardened, but it is tough and corrosion-resistant. I have used it for prying stones out of clay using a lot of force and cutting tough weed roots. It has not bent or dulled despite frequent use over several years. It has a riveted in place handle of tough wood. With it comes a Limited Litetime Warranty. It is the best gardening knife I have ever had.

    A:  Yes, and it is sharp and darned near indistructable. If you have to pound on the butt end to get through oak roots, have at it.

        Snapped in two
        Do not buy this product. I wanted a second Fiskars gardening knife and I thought the Hori Hori 7 In. Stainless Steel Blade Wood Handle Gardening Knife would be more durable than my current one. However, as other reviewers have noted, this garden knife has a design flaw. The notch is a weak point that results in the product snapping in two after my second use. I wish I had seen other reviews before wasting money on this product. But, I expected higher quality from Fiskars.

          Broke the third time I used it
          Don’t bother. It has a weak spot near the handle that it snapped way too easily. I was just working a flower bed.

              Hori hori knife broke in two!
              Sharp, and I thought it would be great for weeding… until the blade broke in two. Yep, snapped right across the blade. Thank God I wasn’t injured! This did not break at the tang where the handle is attached, but across the sturdy seeming metal blade. The packaging says “life time guarantee” so I will definitely be returning it to Home Depot and also notifying Fiskars.

                Favorite garden tool
                My favorite tool but broke at the twine cutting notch.Lifetime warranty so bought another then returned the broken hori hori for refund.

                  Broke in half twoce
                  Loved it until it snapped in half. Submitted lifetime warranty claim and still waiting over 30 days to hear back. Purchased another one because I needed it in the meantime and that one snapped too. Bought a Japanese version online and it's sharper and holding up better. Still haven't submitted claim on second one because I'm not even sure I want another of this garden knife for it to just break in half when weeding.

                  It snapped in half the first time I used it. This product is $30 and should last. Stop making junk products designed to fail so you can then just have people buy a new one. It's wasteful.

                    Hori Hori Knife
                    The 7 inch Stainless Steel Blade Wood Handle Gardening Knife, is a very good product made by Fiskars. The gardening knife has a lot of good features and uses. Like depth marking on concave blade for planting, edge of blade has saw for trimming plants , cutting roots, with twine cutter. It has a nice sheath for the sharp knife with a loop for a belt.. You can dig up weeds and edge around rocks. Happy Planting!
