A:  Hello Jerry, a brush is the best application. If a roller is used then back brushing with a brush is recommended.

        So Far So Good!
I used the Clear version on our rough cut cedar beams and posts. This was a new construction, so the beams were not greyed out yet, from UV damage. At first I tried using a large brush, but found that a 6" roller works best. I suggest a thick roller, 3/4" is preferable. It should also be the one that looks like lambs wool, and not the foam type. The rough cut cedar splinters take a toll on the roller. I back brushed all of the surfaces after applying a good wet coat with the roller.

Working to re-stain my deck, I had to use a diamabrush on my right angle grinder to clean up old wood/stain. I then sanded with 80-grit, to be able to apply this product on "fresh" wood. After two coats, it looks pretty good, but doesn't quite feel like what I was expecting, and I fear I may need a third coat...

            DIY Deck Staining
Before and after...it looks great! It's clear but it still gives it a slight darker color but it's still beautiful 😍!!!

              First application lasted 15 years!
First application was completed in 2008. This application lasted 15 years. Be sure to prep your wood surfaces appropriately. I used a mild cleaning solution of one part bleach and four parts water. Pump sprayed it on and lightly scrubbed with a shop broom. I then power washed my deck and let it dry for at least two weeks. First coat was applied with a roller then back brushed. Same with second coat. I used three 5 gallon buckets. My wood fence is next (probably next year).

                Great if Applied Correctly
Don’t let the few bad reviews with people that likely applied it wrong deter you. Below is process I used: 1st image: after I scrubbed / pressure washed deck. 2nd image: after 1st coat, applied day after. Had hot day so it was fully dry upon application. I did THIN coat with brush, still making sure to back stroke it too & get in every crevice. 3rd image is after 2nd coat, applied day after 1st coat. Relatively thin coat with paint pad. 2 gallon buckets total, including stairs, deck fascia.

                  Best Sealer on the market
I've used this product numerous times on a previous fence and presently on a new fence. Both are shadow board type which makes it a little challenging. I use a skinny 6in roller 3/4 mat for outdoor fence rough surface and decent brushes, not top brand ones because they get beat up from working in and out of the shadow board to fully cover all areas. I throw them away when project is done. I put on at least three coats to form a shell covering on the wood. It lasts longer than 2yrs before you have to seal again. See pics. You can see the difference between 1 and 3 coats. The pic with fence & gate has 3 coats- the other part of fence has 1 coat, still in work.

                  Peeling
We had built a new, about 3000 ft deck with retaining wall and "fence" with rope at our sea wall. After it had set a year we new we needed to protect it. I read many reviews and chose this product. Our contractor cleaned the deck properly and was meticulous about using a brush to apply it after testing a sprayer and pads, etc. He did not apply it when it might rain or the sun was shining on it, etc. It took weeks to accommodate the instructions. That was a year ago. The whole thing is peeling this year. It looks awful. We used the clear. Power wash guys are due today. I thought we would be able to skip a year. We can't afford to hire this done yearly. Some areas are completely under a roof by our back door, not in the picture, so it is protected. It is peeling just as bad.
