About This Product

Our small profile vertical mailboxes are designed to fit into smaller areas with minimal wall-space. Vertical mailboxes are not USPS approved for new installations. The USPS requires properties upgrade to current standards when any remodel or renovation occurs to the property. Any remodel big or small should drive an upgrade to CBU or 4C mailboxes. As these units are top-loading, they should be protected from the weather by installing indoors or under a covered area. Made from heavy-gauge extruded aluminum for durability with striated doors and trim to resist scratches. 5-pin cylinder locks help keep mail contents secure and each compartment features a tenant name card holder.

Questions & Answers

Does it come with the master key that can be given to the Postal Service
ByApr 9, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

The master lock would need to be installed by the post office, and they would have the key to open it. If this is a replacement unit, it is probably ok, but it is not an approved unit for new construction. I would check with your local post office to be sure.

For Model # 12504SMSHA, which post office cluster box type is this, Type I, II, III, IV, V, or VI? They ask this for the USPS MOD (Method of Delivery) form.
    ByMar 23, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Type I, II, III etc refers to the Cluster Box units (CBU). For example Type one is 1570-8##-AF. Type II is 1570-12##AF. Type III is 1570-16##AF. The '##" are for the color so Black = BK, Sandstone=SD. So the back type III is part 1570-16BKAF. That 1250 model is a vertical and it is a legacy apartment style.

Do it come with 3 locks and 3 different keys

        Answer This Question

Thank you for your question. These Locks come with 2 keys per compartment lock, and they are all keyed differently, so the tenants do not have access to each other's mail compartments.

On this videos, it displays an optional mail slots for outgoing mail. How do I install an outgoing mail slot? Does it come with extra door panel with an optional mail slot?
          BySep 29, 2025
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

These vertical units no longer have an option to do an outgoing compartment. We do have a 120-collection box that could be used in conjunction with this. It is available in a surface mount or recess option and can be private or postal prepared.

Do the name card holds slide from the inside or are they installed externally?

            Answer This Question

Hello, the easiest way to install these name cards is to open the door and slide the card down into the slot provided for the name/ apartment number.

              what size lock it takes
              BySep 20, 2024
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Hello, I am not sure if you are referring to the tenant lock or the Master lock. A new unit will come with the tenant compartment locks installed- if you for some reason needed an extra, we do offer those for purchase (Part #K30809). For the master lock - if this is USPS serviced, they would provide an arrow lock so they could access the unit to deliver the mail. If this is for private use it would require a special private lock. Our part number is 206550. I hope this helps!

Is this box approved for outdoor use?

                Answer This Question

These units may be used outdoors, but should always be protected from direct exposure to weather. ( For example: Mounted under an overhang or somewhere that it can be protected from the rain and other elements. ) I hope this helps!

As I stated in my review written on 2/13/2017 great looking mailbox but please take the time to inspect unit before installing. Take extra care to verify that the spacing between the mounting frame and lock support bracket is 1/8" or smaller. Anything larger than 1/8" the USPS arrow lock will not without forcing the door in. I've purchased 4 of these mailboxes in various sizes and this is the 2nd Florence mailbox with quality control issues. This time the mounting frame is missing rivets on the upper left hand side.

Like: Look and finishing. Auth Florence has a polished aluminum finish with thin vertical lines. The matte finishing on Salsbury brand vertical mailboxes makes it look chalky and cheap. Like: Auth Florence vertical mailboxes have name card slots for removable name cards. Salsbury mailboxes only allow you to put a sticker. Depending on how you look it this feature can be a negative since the card slots provide an opening for water intrusion. Dislike: Quality issues. (please read below.) BEWARE QUALITY ISSUES. Have your local USPS maintenance technician come out and test your mailbox with a USPS approved lock to make sure the mailbox opens/closes and locks with ease before mounting. I've purchased two Auth Florence 1250 Vertical Series 6 compartment mailboxes (12506SMSHA) and both have had issues requiring replacement. Incident 1: The lock support bracket was assembled incorrectly requiring excessive force in closing and locking the door. (see photos) Incident 2: Unit was poorly packaged. Inspected by inspector with the initials of "PJ". The lip of the anchor support bracket and lock support bracket collide with one another upon closing. The lip of the anchor support bracket should slide on top of lock support bracket upon closing. The USPS maintenance department is strict on a mailboxes ease of operation. If the technician can't easily open/close/lock with one hand, since mail carriers are usually holding mail in the other, USPS will reject the activation of the new mailbox. The reason for these stringent requirements is because liability. If mail carriers get injured as result of having to fidget with a mailbox in order to get it to properly open/close/lock then the USPS is liable for on the job injuries and unfortunately mail carriers will find almost any excuse to get on disability.

Thank you hyoung for your feedback; we always appreciate hearing end user opinions. It is unfortunate that you have experienced difficulties with these mailboxes and we hope you will continue to give us the opportunity to work with you on your incidents.

While our packaging has been thoroughly tested with various carriers, and we strive to produce quality mailboxes, we will address the matters you have outlined with our quality department.

Vertical mailboxes such as this one have been available in the marketplace for well over 30 years and were designed to USPS specifications for indoor installation written at that time. Since then, new USPS specifications have been written addressing liability as you mention, as well as more stringent security for the mailboxes themselves. These specifications (Standard 4C or STD-4C for short) were not retroactive to the older mailboxes like these verticals (known as Standard 4B+), but does apply to new equipment introduced because of this specification. USPS states that vertical mailboxes should only be used for replacement purposes and not for any new delivery points because of these reasons.

If you would like to discuss your incidents further, please do not hesitate to contact us at 800-275-1747. Thank you again for your feedback! Florence
