2 in. PerforMAX Universal Toilet Flapper and No Tank Removal Flush Valve Repair Kit

For many months I rationalized that the occasional hissing tank refills due to the TINY water leaks through the flapper were not worth the $$$ costs of replacing our toilet. (I had replaced the flapper many times with no improvement.) But with the CALIFORNIA WATER DROUGHT, guilt finally overcame me – I had to do something about this water waste! So I google’d the problem and found this product … WOW – it actually worked and SOLVED the problem. Toilet properly no longer refills until it is flushed. BUY THIS PRODUCT – it works great! Do it and save water. (Note 1: The only minor installation concern was that it is somewhat “tight” to get into the toilet tank to position the part, but if you work slowly and carefully, it is a straightforward process.) (Note 2: I am “marginally handy” and only do simple home projects.) (Note 3: The online video and the phone-in hotline are VERY helpful – use them.) (Note 4: Good luck !!)

Three different plumbers told me nothing could be done regarding my 50+ year old toilet's inability to seal properly and my only option was to replace the whole toilet. The problem was that the old style flapper was just a round ball on a long rod that slid up an down and it rarely slid down into the hole properly to where it would seal. The reason the plumbers gave as to why the whole toilet needed replaced was that there was no means of mounting a new style flapper as the proper attachments weren't in place and there was no way to add them based on the antiquated tank design. Then I found this product and it seemed like the perfect solution to the problem. And it was... until it wouldn't stick. I had cleaned and prepped the porcelain surface as the instructions indicated and the putty molded to the surface nicely but even the slightest pressure caused it to lift off. The putty just would not stick to the smooth porcelain surface. After a good night's sleep, the solution came to me. I carefully rolled the putty away from the outer edge of the ring and kneaded it toward the inside edge, forming somewhat of a triangular cross section. I removed the flapper part to where I could get full access to the top of the ring and then pushing down using the bottom of an aerosol can I was able to push both firmly and uniformly, seating the ring the to where the putty was actually gripping the inside rim of the opening rather than just trying to stick to the slick top surface. Worked like a charm. After reattaching the flapper, I gave a few stiff tugs on the chain and the unit gave no indication of wanting to come free. For someone who does plumbing for a living this should be a no-brainer. In that three different plumbers wanted me replace the entire toilet and spend money unnecessarily all I can say is that I now have a list of three plumbers I won't be calling again. P.s. for anyone having a problem just with the general lack of stickiness, knead the putty a bit. Once I started rolling the edges it got a lot stickier. The wax paper cover these come with was not a good idea as it appears more wax was stuck on the putty than stayed with the paper.
