Greetings txmarti: Your best bet would be to find a valve that fits your tank. Any attempt to reduce the size of the threads on the valve would probably ruin it. You may be able to enlarge the hole in the tank slightly by grinding the hole a little larger using a die grinder. Most people don't have a die grinder at their disposal. Chipping away the porcelain with a any sort of tool is totally out of the question. the porcelain is very brittle, and would surely break. Good luck! Tom R

Dear Valued Customer: Thank you for your question concerning 2 in. Flush Valve Replacement Kit. The toilet is turning off and on because the tank is not holding water. This problem may be resolved by removing the refill tube from "Inside" the overflow pipe and attaching the tube to a clip to hold it onto the overflow pipe. In some cases the flush valve lock nut may not be tight enough and can cause water to seep into the toilet bowl. First verify it is the flapper and not the tank seal that is leaking. Turn off the water. Flush toilet and hold lever open to drain all water down to the level of the flapper. Close lever and allow flapper to drop onto its seal. Add dye to remaining water. Check for dye in bowl. If there is then your problem is the tank seal. Flush valve needs to be removed and either the seal replaced or entire flush valve replaced with its included seals. If there is no evidence of dye in the bowl then it is your flapper that is leaking. Replace the flapper.

Answer

Dear valued customer thank you for your question concerning our 2 in. Flush Valve Replacement Kit. That kit will not work with your Glacier Bay toilet. What you have is a 3 in. flush valve. Ours would be to small. I would recommend the 540AKR that fits most 3 in. flush valves. So far, this product did not solve my toilet bowl leak. It was recommended by Home Depot as a replacement for my Pegasus 834-219 toilet. It does not leak when water line is below flapper. So, I replaced the flapper with same model, and it still leaks. So, I tried a Korky universal Ultra, and it still leaks. I have contacted tech support. Frustrated.

Thank you for posting this review. Ghost flushing or water leaking into the bowl after a new installation of a flush valve may not be the flapper. We suggest checking your refill tube position, if you have the refill tube shoved down or placed inside the overflow pipe pull it out and reattach to the overflow pipe using our refill clip. This will stop a siphon from occurring and stop the leak. Another area to check is the flush valve lock nut. You may need to tighten ½ turn beyond hand tight to stop the leak. If you need help with your installation or have any concerns contact Fluidmaster’s Technical Service Department as we are available Monday through Friday from 5:30 AM through 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time. Yes, you have to remove the tank from the toilet. If you've recently replaced the FILL VALVE, great. Otherwise (and while you're up to your elbows in labor) replace that piece too. The bolts on this kit are great (very beefy). The nuts and washers are stainless steel. The included sealing washers are thick and dense. All in all, you get a new toilet when done.

This repair kit is complete with all parts necessary for flush valve replacement. Installation was easy. The only issue I had was with the large gasket/seal between the tank and the toilet, which does not allow the tank to sit completely flush on the toilet (I have 23 year-old Briggs 1.6gpf toilets). I was afraid to tighten the bolts too much to bring the tank flush with the toilet for fear of breaking the ceramic flanges on the toilet. So now there's a small gap between the tank and the toilet, and if I push on the tank it will wobble ever so slightly, but the seal does not leak. I don't know if the seal will compress over time, but the old original seal may have been smaller to fit this brand of toilet. In any event, the new kit solved my slow trickle problem, and the toilet does not "run" anymore.
