About This Product

The FootingPad by AG-CO is a lightweight foundation for posts used in deck and post frame construction. It eliminates the need for concrete in supporting posts used in pole barns, porches, gazebos, decks and more. Thoroughly tested and approved by the International Code Council Evaluation Services, this post footer makes construction faster and easier. The ICC-ESR found in the documents section below can be delivered to building inspectors not familiar with composite footers. No need to change your process or buy new tools, dig hole below frost line, flatten bottom of hole and place footer ribbed side up. Ease the wear and tear on yourself, your crew and your equipment. Size of FootingPad post footer to use is driven by load, with maximum load on a 12 in. Dia footer of 2,355 lbs. in 3000 PSF soil.

  • Lightweight replacement for concrete

Q:I'm thinking about using this (as a base) with a 12" concrete form tube for building a cat condo. (cut holes, make lid and shelves, cover with carpet) Anyone know how the diameters would line up?

Answer This Question

A:  A 12" tubeform is the same diameter as a 12" FootingPad. If you are looknig for a footing to provide more stability, then I would use at least a 16" FootingPad. If you are looking for a footing to prevent the concrete column from sinking (the primat use for FootingPad), I do not think you will need a footing larger than 12" as the load will not be high. The base of the concrete form should be large enough diamater, so you won't need a separate footing.

Q:Can concrete be poured into the hole with the pad to secure deck post in the ground?

    Answer This Question

A:  In general there is no concrete needed as either a footing or as backfill to provide lateral stability.

    by|Aug 5, 2023

A:  I suppose you could if you are concerned about your deck floating away in a flood. Or maybe blowing away in a hurricane, but a deck weighs a lot and would be unusual for one to get uprooted. But you don't need to set these in a hole, just down to solid ground.

The product was as advertised but for various reasons, I was unable to use it. However, apparently you CANNOT RETURN THIS PRODUCT! BEWARE! That should be clearly stated on the website when ordering but was not mentioned anywhere! This is a Home Depot issue and not a product one.

The pad works great, better than heavy concrete that cracks and deteriorates!

No fuss, no muss, tamp the bottom of the hole; throw in a couple of shovels of gravel, and tamp that level; lower the FootingPad into place, and set the post. Now when the concrete pours in it'll settle into the cavities on the topside of the pad, and when dry will unite post and pad satisfactorily . . .
