    Q:How do you install it?
    by|Nov 26, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  This fits into the channel in the door stop. If you are not replacing an old worn out one, then your door may not have a channel for this kerf seal and it will not work. A foam tape or an aluminum/vinyl door set might be the answer.

          Damaged in Shipping
I am rating five stars on the product. However, these were not available at my local store, so I ordered them for delivery. Unfortunately, the way they are shipped permanently kinks them in the middle where they are folded. I understand why this is since they are very long, but I would recommend pushing in person. I may have to exchange once they become in stock.

The 81-inch door seal had been bent 180 degrees in two places to fit into the cardboard box it was shipped in and was permanently damaged. I had to return it to the local Home Depot.

Very good product to use around an exterior door application. I removed the existing stops on the frame. I used screws to apply the new stops (1" X 2") and I could loosen and tighten to install the new weather strip (to be able to install the attaching leg on the vinyl and be able to create a kerf). Including the top door stop. I bent each end of the new W.S. around the corners at top of frame & applied stick on vinyl foam on header to finish off the weather stripping.

After waiting around 4 or 5 weeks to get the product the overall quality was good. Inner foam core is dense and grey in color which keeps daylight from penetrating through. The only unfortunate thing was I ended up with one piece defective. The inner Kerf plastic liner that goes into the kerf joint wasn’t properly glued into the foam core. As a result, it deemed that piece useless. Bob

I recently install these door seals on 3 brand new exterior doors. The ones that originally came on the door either got dinged or lost during painting. These were easy to trim down to length and appear to be of better quality than the seals that came on the doors. However, the one issue that i noticed is that these seals make it much harder to close the door. I even had to adjust a few lock strike plates to get all of the doors to properly close. I compared this seal to a new one that we were replacing, and what i noticed was that the profile of the seals are virtually the same. The big difference is in the density of the foam core. With the original door seal you can squeeze the seal between your index finger and your thumb and it will completely flatten out. You cant quite do the same thing with the frost king seals. The foam in these replacement seals is much more firm and it does not compress down as flat as the seals that came on the door. After leaving the seals on the doors for a few weeks, I noticed that it was not nearly as hard to close the doors. So they may just need a little time to under the constant pressure of the door and the jamb for them to settle down into place.

              Cheap door seal.
I guess you get what you pay for. I bought 3 of these to replace the old seals on my front door. I cut the pieces to size and installed them. Now it takes brute force to close my front door. And I cant dead bolt it without extreme effort. This is the EXACT same size seal as the one I replaced, only it is alot stifffer, keeping the door from shutting correctly.
