Q:So what is the actual depth of the shelves. I see contradicting info in the specs and in answers - 9.5 - almost 12". Can someone tell me for sure for the Jaya 5-Shelf unit?

The worst thing I have ever bought in my lifetime
This thing was wrong since the very first start. The nail for the base is too hard to install but I manage to set up till the end. It keeps shaking whenever I touch it. I tried to fix again and tighten the screw but still not working. The holes of the nails even get bigger and worse. I have to order another shelf. What am I supposed to do with these useless wooden pieces? Seriously, I just want my money back. Just don’t buy it. Such a nice shelf just like the tower of Pisa.

      Nothing like the pictures
I received this product thinking it would be relatively easy to assemble, but I was wrong. I received a box full of plain wooden planks and a bag of screws with no assembly instructions. Only 5 of the planks are colored. Don't buy this product it's a gimmick

        Not as advertised
This shelf is advertised as 11.6” deep but it’s just under 9.5”. Can’t use the vertical shelf dividers I bought. Quality is that of early 90’s level of RTA furniture. Particle board is fine, but paperboard backing is nearly as thin as poster board. I bought three of these to hold my fabric and yarn, but I’ll be replacing them as soon as I possibly can. Would NOT recommend.

            Definitely regret buying
I’ve put together a few things for my new apartment by myself but never dealt with such cheap quality. It would split just by me putting in the screws and now it’s all wonky. I have to figure out how to make it stand straight or just buy a new one from somewhere else. Definitely don’t recommend. I followed all instructions but it was just not steady enough.

              Disappointed with this shelf
Easy to put together, but is not a quality product in comparison to other brands of these type shelves. *Stickers instead of plastic to cover screw holes. *Shelf holders are very cheap plastic. *Glue all over the finished edge. *When removing 'letter id stickers' they peeled the white finish on the shelves. Have purchased many of these type shelves in the past but to say the least, I will not purchase this brand a second time. Disappointed.

The thing broke before I could even finish putting it together. Very cheaply made definitely not worth 50 bucks. Serves its purpose though.

Worse cheap item I've ever bought. Although the actual wood frame and shelves are fiberboard and heavy and it looks like the laminate won't chip or wear off, I ordered these for extra books storage in the garage. The back is thin cheap cardboard that I had to tape together and the seams, glue in some areas, and then cover with cover contact paper on both sides and tape each corner with heavy duty electric tape so it won't come off on the sides. For books in the garage I'm hoping it'll stay together and the back won't come apart.

I STRONGLY recommend using a table at least waist high & not the floor for the creation of this product. Some people may use the floor or carpet because of lack of living space. You will understand why at the end of this review. Also will need a battery powered drill, Makita is what I used. I wouldn't recommend an electric drill, cause the wood is too thin and you may go right through this thing on the first screw & split it lol. I looked over all the screws and components and saw that the wall mounting kit brackets to fasten to the wall are thin plastic flexible cheap rubber and not a durable type of metal or steel. The diagram shows two and there was just one of these horrible flimsy nothing brackets. Now I know why there was a home depot built right next to my house. ^^ At the very beginning, the D & B unit should have had some type of guidelines where to screw in the two sections, since they are going under the shelf and won't ever be seen. There were no holes for the screws that were going into the smaller bottom bar ( D unit ). So you have to muscle them in. The overall foundation and structure of the shelf only took about 9 mins, but the inserting of the power pins( the mini nails ) took a good while. Reason being is they are tiny, less then an inch long. If your using a steel hammer you will hit your thumb repeatedly over the course of sealing the backboard onto the structure. After the product was completely built. We had to move it. It says build it with two people but it doesn't tell you you really need three people to help move it & not because it is heavy. It is by far one of the most flimsy shelves I have ever built. Because of the height of this shelf you will need someone in the middle to support the center with one person on the top and base and carry it to it's location. In the manual they recommend a maximum of 20lbs on all shelves with a maximum of 40lbs on the base foundation. I strongly advise their warning. Maybe books on the bottom with shiny things on top. This product is 100% you get what you pay for. Conclusion - I recommend going to splerg on some longer nails(about 50) & 2 steel brackets for the wall mounting kit. Your thumb & finger will love you for it. I left an image of the wall mounting kit & the nails, one of the shelves and a standard hammer so you can see actual sizes.
