Your HVAC should be well insulated, and your soffit vents should have at least a 1"space under the roof decking, so the air flows from the soft vents under the roof deck and up to the ridge vents, the insulation should not be against the roof decking. It is very important that there is airflow to stop the build-up of moisture, Moisture buildup will cause the insulation to freeze and in the summer develop Mold. there should be 1 square for of opening near the top of the roof per 300 square for of the ceiling in the house. A house 28 ft wide 48' long would be 1344 sq ft it would need 4.5 sq ft of Vent, the ridge vent stop 2 ft short so 1 to 1.5 inches that's assuming the space is 1/2 to 3/4 inch on each side X 44 ft so with just the ridge you would only have 3.6 to 5.4 So probably a little extra at the Gables wouldn't hurt.

This is not recommended for hip roofs according to GAF. Can you please tell me why? Thank you.

Hello, hip roofs require a different design vent due to the angle of the hip, as compared to the ridge, and thus the amount and type of water/weather the hip is exposed to. We recommend the GAF Cobra Hip Vent for use on hip roofs. Thank you.

Hello, thank you for your question. The Cobra Exhaust Vent is in a roll form, which makes installation a bit easier, while the SnowCountry vent is in 4' sections. That being said, the SnowCountry vent does have more Net Free Area, which translates to a bit higher ventilating capacity. For example, the SnowCountry vent has 18 sq. in. of Net Free Area, while Cobra Exhaust Vent has 14.1, which equates to having to install less lineal foot of product to meet your attic's exhaust ventilation needs. For more information, please give our a technical team a call at 1-800-ROOF-411. Thank you.

Hello, each roll of Cobra Exhaust Vent comes with collated (coils) of nails which are typically sealed in the middle of the roll packaging. There may have been an issue at the store with someone opening the packaging. We're sorry for your experience. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. gaf

I used this product as well as a similar one from Owens Corning(Ventsure) on some apartments I own. I bought this as they provided nails and had good reviews. I was using the new battery operated Dewalt roofing nailer so a little less powerful than a compressor nailer. I started and the 1 3/4 inch nails were blowing thru the cap shingles. I changed the power on the nailer and still same problem. I ended up having to manually separate the nails and then gently nail them with a hammer. I found that the product provided much less support and I am also concerned long term about its lack of water resistance compared to the Owens product. I am not a roofer by trade but am a long term property owner as well as builder and developer. Maybe I just missed something regarding the install but to me the product did not provide enough support for the cap shingles and may have a tendency should some of the cap shingles blow off or start to fail.

Hello, thank you for your feedback. This product is tested to TAS100 for Miami-Dade and other major code body approvals to withstand 110 mph wind-driven rain on roof slopes 2:12 - 20:12, so please feel confident that this product will resist any weather infiltration when installed properly. The feedback in terms of cap shingle blow-through is interesting, and we'd like to learn more. This is our most popular mesh roll ridge vent product that we offer and rarely, if ever, hear issues with nail blow through. The Owens Corning roll vent is a plastic corrugated product, while this is a mesh roll which is much more flexible. So, the pressure settings on the nail gun will most likely need to be adjusted down somewhat when fastening cap shingles over a flexible mesh roll ridge vent versus a corrugated plastic roll vent. Please give our technical team a call at 1-800-ROOF-411, as we'd like to learn more of your experience. Thank you. gaf
