Q:To many Of the same questions please read the answers before you ask. I did not see an answer for how to secure the edges. Do I need to nail it down so that the wind doesn't go up under the edge and start ripping it up ?

Answer This Question

A:  No, you only nail down the drip edge and edge flashing metal. You put cement asphalt primer over the drip edge and side edges once nailed and let dry, then roll the roofing over. It shows this in the 2nd video in the description.

Q:What primer for this roll? Answers here say: AST MD-41 and those say to not put on plywood. Henry 307 isn't even listed for sale, the other suggested option. What to use?

A:  Hello, you can use any ASTM D41 Asphalt primer. Hello, the GAF Liberty Peel and Stick roofing can be applied down to a clean plywood deck without underlayment. We ask for the plywood to be primed with an ASTM D41 Asphalt Primer before installation. Please call our technical team to discuss at 877-GAF-ROOF. Thank you for your question

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. The Liberty Cap Sheet is designed to be installed over a primed plywood deck, approved insulation boards, or the Liberty Base Sheet. GAF does not have an application of the Liberty Cap Sheet over Storm Guard. For further questions, please call our technical team at 877-GAF-ROOF.

installation was not difficult, we will see how it does in winter

This material is easy to lay down and it sticks perfectly. Time will tell the durability of this material.

Even experienced companies can't get this to stick properly
3 months after install. Material does not stick properly and rolls onto itself. Poor quality manufacturing.

            2 Years No Leaks
This was a good weekend project small part of my roof has always leaking. It has a very low slope. Made it through 2 years with no problems and no signs of quiting. Get plenty of razor blades. Had to by the spray can asphalt material. You can do it!

INSTALLATION OF THE LIBERTY SELF ADHISIVE CAP
Installed on a very low slope roof. I followed the instructions that I got from the web for suggested installation and followed them. Problem that I first encountered is that Home Depot does not stock the Matrix 309 primer in the store. It is rather thick and can be cut a little with mineral spirits. Best to roll out the roofing to ensure straight lines first, once you remove the film, it is stuck for good. Like anything else ensure you have a good base to install it on, and don't rush the job. This appears to be much better than the rolled roofing, which will start to disintegrate in about 3-5 years. Will see how long this holds up. I used this instead of tin roof for horses. The pinging on a metal roof will unsettle them.

Trickey to apply the top layer under existing flashing - but a good product.
I stripped three layers of old rolled asphalt and tar paper off my flat (ish) roof. Exposing old timber roof. had to replace a few boards, uses some 'scraps' of the base layer to shim it up to the same level as the original wood. I like that the backing comes off in two parts, easy to install the bottom courses. Top course was tricky, as I had to go under existing copper flashing. One improvement is to have BOTH sides of the backing non-stick!! If you peel it and the wind catches it and flips it back on the sticky stuff - you BETTER hope its non-stick side down. Impossible to re-position.

I have a second floor balcony on our 15 year old home. Sometimes, if we receive a heavy rain, the balcony would link down to our kitchen below. A contractor quoted a price of $5000.00 to redo the balcony floor. After doing some online research, I decided to use this product for my DIY project (2 boxes). The results were much better than I could have hope for.

                    Easy installation for Home owner
I'm a homeowner installing a roof for the first time. I had no idea what I was doing, but thanks to the videos/instructions/these reviews, I just saved like $5000!! :) Total out of pocket was under $800 I'd say. But whew, hard on the back, all that bending over. I was installing over a garage, with stairs up to the roof/deck above, so I bought a dolly to transport the rolls up to the roof. No problems with the weight of the rolls. I took several shortcuts though: Since HD was out of the recommended asphalt primer, and I didn't want to wait for a delivery, I just used an "asphalt sealer" that looked pretty close, that they had in stock, to coat the plywood. Then I took my chances and just installed the "Cap layer" or whatever on top. Apparently installing THREE layers is recommended by GAF. Heck with that! Added expense, + nobody has time for that! Anyway, then I smeared some Asphalt "cement" around the seams. Stinky! I have a completely flat roof (no slope, like is apparently required for this product). Just installed it last night. It rained lightly for an hour and no leaks in the garage underneath yet! Hooray! Today/sometime soon I'll install the flashing around the perimeter. Wish me luck! Will update after it pours down rain this weekend :) I mean, what's the worst that can possibly happen? Fingers crossed.

The rolls are very heavy (so get help lifting), but the material is flexible and flattens out quickly once placed. Easy to cut with a utility knife. The back side of the white peel-off material sticks very strongly to the sticky side of the roofing, so caution should be used letting it fly about in the wind (not uncommon on a roof); it would definitely be easier if both sides were equally non-sticky.
