Product Details

The perfect finishing touch for your new roof should be a distinctive and protective ridge cap shingle. TimberTex Premium Ridge Cap Shingles will accentuate the natural beauty of your newly installed GAF shingle roof. The special double-layer design adds depth and dimension to your roof that traditional single-layer ridge caps cannot provide, while offering critical protection at the high-stress areas of your roof (hips and ridges). TimberTex Premium Ridge Cap Shingles are specifically color-blended to complement your GAF shingles, unlike cut-up 3-tab shingles used as ridge caps.
  • Dramatic look: Its factory-laminated, double-layer design is up to 195% thicker than typical single-layer ridge cap shingles or cut-up 3-tab shingles
  • Saves time: Extra-large 8" exposure provides a dramatic look and reduces the amount of ridge cap pieces needed to finish the job, helping save labor.
  • Each bundle covers 20 lineal feet and contains 10 double-layer sheets, each composed of 3 double-layer ridge cap shingles. These double-layer shingles are factory-laminated together and are NOT intended to be torn apart.
  • Manufactured to complement the color of your GAF shingles (unlike typical cut-up 3-tab strip shingles that can detract from the finished look)
  • Dura Grip self-seal adhesive seals each piece tightly and helps reduce the risk of shingle blow-off
  • Versatile: 12 in. width fits easily over the most common-size ridge vents, including 11.5 in. and 10.5 in. ridge vents.
  • Pre-perforated design for a less labor-intensive alternative to using cut-up 3-tab strip shingles as your ridge cap
  • 25-year StainGuard Plus Algae Protection Limited Warranty against blue-green algae discoloration. Proprietary GAF Time Release Algae-Fighting Technology helps protect your ridge cap shingles from unsightly stains. (Applies only to shingles with StainGuard
  • Eligible component of the GAF WindProven Limited Wind Warranty an industry first: a wind warranty with no maximum wind speed limitation - when installed with the required combination of GAF Accessories (See WindProven Limited Warranty for details)
  • Eligible for up to a Lifetime limited warranty when installed on Lifetime Shingle roofs.

Q:What size of nails are used for these cap shingles? In the specs they are 2.4” thick. Am I reading that correctly? If so, I would need 3” nails?

    Answer This Question

A:  They are not 2.4 inches thick, I used 2 inch nails.

    by|Aug 31, 2021

A:  Hello, we recommend corrosion resistant roofing nails that provide at least 3/4" penetration into wood decks or just through Plywood/OSB roof decks. While this product is a double-layer ridge cap (factory laminated together), it is not 2.4" thick. In the headlap area of the the product, where it is fastened, the approximate double layer thickness is 1/4"-3/8" thick. Please take into account any field shingles and/or ridge vent underneath. Thank you

Q:I have 40 feet of Ridge Venting. Do I only need two bundles?
          by|Jul 21, 2021

          Answer This Question

A:  Hello, Each bundle of TimberTex Double-Layer Hip and Ridge Cap Shingles covers 20 lineal feet when installed at the proper 8" exposure. So, two bundles would cover the 40 feet of ridge venting. You should also consider any unvented ridge or hip area that would need to be covered with ridge cap shingles as well. Thank you!

These aren't worth the money. Every two pieces are bonded together. Try to separate them and they just tear. Maybe once we get a sunny day they can sit out and work, but for the price, old three tabs are a MUCH BETTER CHOICE!!

Hello, while we're sorry for your particular experience, TimberTex is a Double-Layer ridge cap shingle, unlike typical 3-tab or single layer ridge caps. As a double-layer ridge cap shingle, the two layers are intentionally laminated together at the factory and are not intended to be torn apart for installation. The double-layer design provides the added dimension on the roof and also two layers of weather protection. Again, while we're sorry for your experience, unfortunately, the product seems to have been installed/used in an unintended manner. There are 10 - 12" x 36" double-layer shingles per bundle. Each of those shingles contains 3 double-layer ridge cap segments. When installed at the published 8" exposure, each bundle covers the intended 20 lineal feet. Thank you. gaf

We are sorry that you had some difficulty with our Timbertex Ridge Cap Shingles. Timbertex Ridge Caps are a double-layer ridge cap product unlike using 3-tab strip shingles as ridge cap. As such, Timbertex has two layers sealed together at the factory and are not meant to be separated into individual single-layer shingles. Each bundle of Timbertex contains 10 sheets (double layer sheets) which are then split by the installer into 30 individual ridge cap shingles. If you need more information, please reach out to our technical services team who can discuss the design and installation of this ridge cap shingle. They can be reached at 1-800-ROOF-411. Thanks. gaf

                caps stuck together
If you tried to peel them apart they would tear. Returned to the Home Depot for a full refund that was very easy and everyone was very nice. I went to the shingle isle to see the condition of caps. I opened two bundles and found they were stuck also. I had to get a bundle of three tab shingles and use them. The store associate gave me a 50% discount. As I said, everyone was very nice but these caps were stuck together before ever leaving the store.

Great for that finishing touch when topping off the cap of the roof. Had no issues whatsoever and roof looks great. I cannot believe all of the folks who couldn't figure out how these are double layer and tried to pull them apart, therefore ruining them.
