    Answer This Question

A:  Hello, please give our technical team a call at 1-877-GAF-Roof for further information. This product isn't really dense like cardboard, but it is a fiberglass based construction and is somewhat more rigid than typical asphalt felts. That being said, it rolls out easily and lays flat. Thank you for your question

Q:Using metal cladding as window and door trim. We are advised to use something like this. Is this product used to prevent electrolysis also. Does it have an adhesive backing?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello, this product is designed and tested for use as a roofing underlayment and hasn't been tested for use in your desired application. It is mechanically attached and does not have a self-adhering backing. Thank you for your question.

      by|Mar 27, 2020

A:  There is no adhesive applied to the underlayment. Its primary purpose is to add a fireproof layer to a wood structure. Its purpose is fireproofing and not necessarily as an isolator for electrolysis. It is a better product in my opinion than 15 lb felt tar paper. Primarily used for roofing applications.

            Fire rated
We use this under our membrane roofs to achieve a class A fire rating. Most of the time if we are using class A insulation, we don't need it but if we are just going over the deck with membrane, this is a great product to use.

The stated '' LIFETIME WARRANTY'' has so many ''rules'' it basically has NO warranty at all. It's just $200.00 felt paper. fancy WORDS signifying nothing. I'd like to see a VIDEO showing a fire test-- and a fire class rating posted in the info. Any chance of posting that for customers GAF ?

Hello, unlike typical asphalt felts, this product is tested by UL to provide a Class A fire system rating underneath asphalt shingles and a variety of other roof coverings, such as wood, metal, and slate. If you are not in need of an upgraded system fire rating, you may want to consider a typical roofing underlayment which will be of lower cost. As you're probably aware, many wood, metal and slate systems do not achieve a Class A fire rating by themselves. VersaShield, when used in these systems, helps upgrade the fire rating from Class B or Class C to a Class A. UL's certification directory is for public review, so if you would like verification or evidence of the actual UL Certification, you can try here: https://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/template/LISEXT/1FRAME/index.htm Thank you. gaf
