About This Product

WeatherSide fiber cement siding is the one and only solution for replacing or repairing old asbestos siding shingles. It is available in a variety of sizes and shapes to match many of the old siding shingles installed over the last 60-years. Unlike some of the original siding shingles that it replaces, WeatherSide pre-primed siding shingles contain no asbestos. It is easy to install, after properly removing the old siding, simply nail the WeatherSide siding in place and paint. WeatherSide is even resistant to warping, denting, rotting, expansion/contraction and termite infiltration.

Q:What kind of paint can you use to paint them?
by|Mar 9, 2024

Answer This Question

A:  Hello, an exterior grade siding/trim paint is recommended. For more specifics, please verify with the paint supplier (or your local Home Depot store) if they offer any exterior siding/trim paint. Most major brands do, as wood or fiber-cement siding are commonly painted with this type of paint. Thank you

Q:Are there pre-drilled holes near the bottom for face nailing? Is that how they are put on the wall?

    Answer This Question

A:  Yes, there are three predrilled holes at the bottom edge for fastening. We recommend our hot dipped galvanized siding nails for fastening. Thank you

This product is perfect. Purchased 2 boxes for a gable area. They arrived undamaged, pre drilled for nails and nicely primed. Cuts nice and smooth with a Cement board blade in a circular saw. Took drill bits just fine where I needed to add nails. Same product as Hardi Board, just half the thickness. Highly recommend.

Not sure if I would recommend this or not. I put these on a shed I built and it turned out pretty nice, but I found these shingles difficult to work with. Maybe it's just me being an amateur, but the shingles break or crack easily - especially when driving nails. I found out quickly that I had to drill holes for the nails (I was not using an air nailer), or the shingle would crack. As it is, I know the the shingle underneath the top layer would crack when driving in a nail. Overall, I like the finished look, but I would look for a different product if I had to do another job.

Hello, thank you for your purchase and for the feedback. To help other folks, these siding shingles do come with pre-drilled nail holes from the factory, so most of the pre-drilling is not required unless you have smaller pieces to install around details. In that case, we recommend pre-drilling to avoid any potential cracking. Also, hand nailing is highly recommended. Unlike typical vinyl siding or other types of "modern" siding, this is manufactured out of fiber-cement to replicate the look of old non-existant asbestos shingles, which in themselves also required care during installation. Thank you again for your valued feedback. gaf

            Worked very well
Bought these to redo old paint peeling hail-damaged ship-lap siding gables on '50's house. Put tar paper over the old siding, nailed these on, painted, and looks great! Had no trouble cutting them - used an antique asbestos shingle cutter (like a giant heavy-duty paper cutter) I found on eBay that worked perfectly with these. Small cuts for notching around a pipe, I used an old diamond blade tile saw I had. Did not have to drill any holes as the shingles are all pre-drilled - and you really don't need more than the holes provided, and maybe some epoxy on the back of any small pieces. Gentile touch needed for nailing - you nail just to the surface then STOP. If you try to sink the nail head into the shingle - it will break.

Nice product, but some of the panels have waves in them and do not lay flat on the wall. Holds up well to a stray hit from a hammer if you miss the nail (not too hard though). I cut this with a diamond blade circular stone saw, but no matter which side was up when cutting, the finish side would chip some along the cut.

Exposed face nailing, only one width you can use, easy to crack or break, and the profile does not stand out after painting. I will not use again.

I may have given these 5 stars, however the pre-drilled holes were across the bottom of the shingle instead of the top

Hello, these products are face nailed, the nails are intended to be at the bottom of each shingle, not the top. Please review the installation instructions or give us a call at 877-GAF-ROOF. Thank you gaf
