Product Overview

Grace Ice and Water Shield HT fully-adhered, smooth surface roofing underlayment is specifically designed for high temperature applications such as metal and tile roofs. It delivers all the advantages of Grace Ice and Water Shield roofing underlayment with thermal stability metal and tile roofs require. Not all high temperature roofing underlayments are the same. Grace Ice and Water Shield HT is an excellent high temperature ice and water barrier that follows in the footsteps of the original Ice and Water Shield, but is specially formulated to meet the higher service temperatures that are inherent to metal and tile roofs. The proprietary adhesive if formulated with a temperature resistance of up to 260°F. The peel and stick membrane forms a watertight bond to the roof deck, and seals around the primary roof covering fasteners to protect the roof deck from water intrusion. It also creates a strong bond to the roof deck. Grace Ice and Water Shield HT peel and stick roofing underlayment delivers an optimal balance of adhesion and thermal stability for superior performance under the most demanding roof types, such as metal and tile roofs.
  • High Thermal Stability up to 260F
  • 120 day exposure: delivers consistent performance over long, unpredictable construction cycles
  • High quality seal around roofing nails: delivers strong roof leak protection; providing peace of mind against costly call backs
  • Protects under all standard sloped roof coverings - Grace Ice and Water Shield HT peel and stick underlayment protects under slate, tile, cedar shakes, metal and conventional asphalt shingles
  • Strong adhesion to the roof deck: helps ensure a watertight seal, protecting roofs from harsh weather conditions

This Grace Ice and Water Shield underlayment was the perfect material for keeping water and Ice and keep everything it covers dry! Used primarily for roofing, but can be used for other jobs as well. It is thick and easy to apply and holds with its under stickiness extremely well. Came well packaged and was easy to apply. I used it for underlayment for a covered deck and worked really well. Would highly recommend this Grace Ice and water shield.

This stuff will really seal your roof. It is designed for and used on roofs where it does an excellent job when applied on the roof edge below the shingles. Thusly used it will prevent ice dam buildup. It has a very aggressive adhesive on one side. I would not recommend removing the paper protecting the sticky surface until ready to apply. It will easily stick to itself (see photo). The box is designed to allow you to roll the product out as needed. It is thin enough not to interfere with the installation of shingles

As a volunteer in construction-oriented missions work, I've re-roofed many houses over the years and typically use some version of ice and water shield in valleys, around chimneys, and on some eaves. Usually, the backer is a very thin plastic that tears and rarely comes off cleanly. This product has a thick paper backing that peels very cleanly without tearing - very nice feature. I used some of this for an unconventional purpose - sealing some horizontal stringers in a rebuild job on deck stairs. Since these stringers don't get good airflow, they don't always dry quickly. This sticky underlayment should help keep them dry.

Other than buying a quality shingle and getting it properly installed, using a quality ice and water shield product is probably the next most important thing. Most of the products out there will last a good long while at this stage, but if you plan on being in your house for a long time and want to protect yourself from unplanned (and unnecessary) headaches, I recommend the Grace brand. Installation is standard and you can feel the quality when you pick it up vs other brands (you'll feel it in you back in the morning).

GCP Applied Technologies Grace Ice and Water Shield This Self-Adhered Roofing Underlayment is definitely the class of the industry for preventing water penetration (incl. ice formation) on low slope roofs. I became aware of the product a few years ago when I contracted with HD to re-roof my house in Phoenix. The only surprising thing that I found with the product this time is how easy it is for the homeowner (family) to install it easily. Since I am now 76, it is important that my property is protected without having maintenance issues. I heartily recommend this product.

I just finished installing GCP Applied Technologies Grace Ice and Water Shield HT. The product comes in a 36 in. x 75 ft. roll, total of 225 square foot. It is also self-adhered roofing underlayment and does not require any additional adhesive. I was tired of my leaking shed, so I stripped off the old shingles and applied this product. It is very easy to roll out and cuts easily with a utility blade. It has good instructions printed on the side of the box. I water tested the water shield before I placed on the shingles and not a single leak.

This is a great product and I have used it on many roofs, I have used it as an alternative product this time. On many car and truck web sites they sell soundproofing for vehicles that looks almost exactly the same as this and costs 2 to 3 times more, I thought I would try a roll for sound proofing my R/V. One of my noisier areas was the generator compartment. When you were eating dinner if you had the generator on it could be very loud.. I lined the generator compartment with this Ice & Water shield and the amount of sound coming out has been cut by at least 50%... You can now eat dinner, watch tv and even sleep in relative comfort, As I said I have used it on many roofs and its a great product and works very well. I am going to take the rest of the roll I have left and soundproof the undercarriage of the R/V making it much quieter and more comfortable noise levels when driving. It sticks well to metal, Just make sure to remove any oil or grease, I wiped it down with mineral spirits first..

I had the opportunity to use this flexible ice and water shield on a previous roofing on my garage. This material works well and is self adhesive reducing punctures and resisting ice buildup which can lift a shingle enough for water penetration. 100% needed in my area for code compliance. it is thick and covers minor roof imperfections, rolls out like a dream and stays where you put it. I have been using membranes for years with no issues and with a field covering membrane I have totally eliminated the use of non adhesive underlayments(Felt AKA Tar paper). Using quality products means you will love your roof and not have leak damages and almost no future issues. Note this material is heavy and application needs two roofers.

I haven't had a chance to use this product yet, but in looking over the directions I really like that it can be applied in three different ways. Either cutting it is small sections up to 10 to 15 feet long or use the whole roll (and do a back-roll technique. Also when coming near protrusions like vents, etc. you can use a rip-cord technique). You do have to prime the surface depending on if is metal or plywood if product is not adhering well.

GCP Applied Technologies Grace Ice and Water Shield HT 36 in. x 75 ft. Roll Self-Adhered Roofing Underlayment (225 sq. ft.) Be advice that this product is really sticky and it is mandatory to use in MN on roofs for the first two rows on the house, since is my first time using this product, I was a bit worried installing by myself on a re-roof on my back yard storage (approx. 140sq ft., 1 roll was more than I needed). I decided to precut 12ft and 2inches sections for ease of working with product and because my storage is 12ft. and it couldn’t have gone smoother once I got a routine down. Once I cut off my strip I would roll it back up, take it to where I want to start unrolled entire length line it up and peel about 10-12" of backing and set it on one end. After that I just peeled the backing off as the material seat where I want it, went on without a hitch (and I live in a very windy area). I have one more outbuilding that need roof and I plan to re-roof and wouldn't second guess using this product. The shingles and tar paper I took off were horribly brittle; no wonder we were having leaks. I doubt water will ever find its way through this sticky ice and water. Be advice it sticks to everything.
