Questions & Answers

How is this GCP different from GRACE TV718306 6"x75'Vycor Flashing?

Asked by MT October 16, 2020

It appears grace split for purposes of stock trading but it’s the same stuff with the new gcp label. If you read the reviews they are still under grace. The original company.

Does this flashing tape need a primer?

Asked by JK July 26, 2020

will this product stretch to make corners or will it need to be cut?

Asked by john July 25, 2020

Assuming you mean the part of the strip that is outside and has to 'curve' 90 degrees to get around the opening, it stretches enough if about half the width of the strip (or less) is making that curve.

Can this be used as inside corner flashing for foam board? Once applied will it remain stuck even...

Asked by ja1724 July 24, 2020

It probably can but I think the reinforced aluminum tape may be a better option. Just my opinion. Good luck.

Can this be applied to pressure treated deck framing in the rain? I didn’t know if it affected how well it adhered.

Asked by Dreban May 16, 2020

The adhesive is extremely sticky, however, I wouldn't try to put it on wet lumber.

would you use this to add a window (remodel, no existing window)?

Asked by Tom January 4, 2020

Yes. Watch install videos.

does it bend on bottom corners

Asked by woody September 11, 2019

Imagine duct tape. Very flexible and don't stick it to itself and you can do wonders with it.

is it difficult to cut say 6 inch by 4 ft lengths due to stickyness

Asked by Dan July 28, 2019

It is pretty easy to cut with a sheet rock knife. It has backing on it so you can just lay it out and cut it. You peel off the backing before you apply it. Good stuff to work with but once it sticks to itself there is no going back! Good luck!

What color is vycor? If not white, is the product paintable? I am thinking to use it between P5 w...

Asked by Hank April 30, 2019

Black. Not intended to be seen.

Can this be exposed to sunlight?

Asked by Chris April 11, 2019

The spec. (see link above) says: Do not leave the product permanently exposed to sunlight. Maximum recommended exposure time is 30 days.

The Vycor Plus 6 in. fully-adhere flashing will served as a great supplement to the SureCorner flexible corner flashing for my sliding patio. Hopefully, the combination of the Grace Vycor Plus flexible flashing and the SureCorner will protect the subfloor/sill and all below it from water intrusion for a lifetime. The Vycor Plus adhered well even with a cheap J-roller. Vycor Plus does have ripcords. I counted at least two. I noticed them after a few cuts. You can easily miss them. I had to replace the 20 year old Crestline wooden (Aluminum clad exterior) patio door that came with my original home. I chose the United 4500 vinyl door for the second installation. In 1997 my builder installed the patio door with no protection of any kind to the subfloor/sill. Over the years water infiltrated and damaged part of: the fixed door panel (not his fault), the door sill, subfloor/sill, the exterior OSB sheathing, box joist, floor joist, insulation (between the floor joists), and the house sill. I had to fix/replace some structures before installing the new door. A replacement job became a repair and replacement job. Good luck with your projects.

This product is excellent
It is a thin, asphalt based flashing with a sticky back. Just peal off the paper and apply it. My use was to seal deck beams before laying deck boards. I just rolled it out and pressed it around the beams. Since another reviewer said the sticky doesn't hold forever and needs some mechanical restraint, I stapled the edges with stainless steel staples. I had an occasion to remove a deck screw and could see the asphalt really gripped the screw and made a water tight seal. Fun to work with!

Multiple-Use Flashing!
Used Grace Vycor's heavy-duty sticky(!)-back flashing to protect my old pressure-treated deck joists from future weather damage. We're replacing original 22-yr-old cedar 4 x 5/4 planks with Timber Tech composite. While I appreciate Vycor's product differentiation (they offer this as 4" x 75' "Deck Protector" with a non-slip pattern for $5 more -- for the short time it's exposed while you lay down planks), I purchased the 12" x 75' rolls to cut into different strip widths (2' for rim joist, 3" for joists, 4" and other for other flashing needs) and save some coin in the process. This stuff is slippery on the top, sticky on the back, and appears to be thick enough to survive years of pressure washing where it remains exposed between the planks. I anticipate other uses for what I have left over. We shall see how it holds up... I was surprised that my local HD doesn't stock it but doubly pleased that shipping to home was free and product cost was less than other retailers that had it in stock.

12" X 75" Grace Vycor Plus, Great Product
easy to work with in 12" size, ripcord is a big help when applying a 16' piece over the edge of flashing. great product, i used it to seal a large area behind T1-11 siding when attaching a deck ledger board to the rim joist. order the big roll, you will find places to use it. store it in a cool place until ready to use.

I used this tape to seal the nailing flanges around 6 new windows and 3 sliding doors. It adhered to the plastic very well but came loose from the new lumber so got a can of spray adhesive to prime the wood and now you can't pull it off. Completely seals the joints from wind and rain.
