My primary use for this flashing tape will be in the installation of two windows on a large shed. The windows come with nailing fins and the installation is straightforward. The sill should be prepared with this tape and then the tape will be used over the fins to seal out water before the trim is applied. I also used this tape to patch a crack in a mixing tub for concrete and mortar. Something fell on the large black plastic tub causing a crack near one of the corners of the tub (note that each of the four corners have a curved surface. The tape provides strong and sure adhesion. The trick lies in separating the clear plastic covering from the adhesive on the thin, butyl film. The tape comes with pre-marked 6" cross marks on the exterior surface so it's easy to do quick measurements without using a tape measure. When separating the clear plastic, sometimes a sharp fingernail does the trick by getting in between the two films at a corner. Otherwise, you can use a fingernail to scratch and pull at a corner until the films separate. The extreme adhesive properties of this product account for the difficulty there. Also, this type of flashing tape cannot be stretched and formed to some curved surfaces or at corners to eliminate making cuts to help it find the surfaces that are not in the same plane. All in all, it's a good product. I'll be installing my windows later this month. Today, I repaired the mortar tub and the repair worked great.

Using flashing tape is one of those things that used to be an "extra mile" type of thing, but is something really any contractor worth his salt should be doing at this point. For the small percentage of additional cost, the amount of angst that it will save you later on is well worth the money. Installation is easy, but unless your comfortable doing the rest of the work, just make sure your contractor is using a product like this.

Any time you are installing a window, door, etc., it really comes down to piece of mind whether or not you did everything you can to protect your work and to ensure it will stand the test of time. After all, what good is doing all the work of installing something like a window with all the trim, caulking, priming, painting, etc., if you're going to have to replace it in a couple years because you didn't properly protect your work and water has infiltrated and damaged your home. Using a tried and true product like this just makes sense. It is the perfect width for wrapping around framing lumber, has incredible hold because of the adhesive and is easy to work with. For me, it's one of the most important parts of any window install. I did a couple basement windows this weekend and plan to use the rest of the roll on a patio slider.

I requested the "GCP APPLIED TECHNOLOGIES VYCOR PRO 4 IN. X 75 FT. ROLL FULLY-ADHERED BUTYL FLASHING TAPE (25 SQ. FT.)", with the idea to seal some areas inside my rain gutters which appear to be corroding and leaking. I have used this product in the past with excellent results, this time I decided, to also use it on a different application. I have a garden watering can (2 gal), which is about 10 years old that had a couple of leaks. I wiped it clean and taped as shown below. Perfect seal, good as new for 10 more years. This product is very easy to cut, and to apply to most any surface. Once applied this tape is there to stay, so try to place it on the right place the first time. We love this tape and we recommend it. For more information reference: GCP Applied Technologies Vycor Pro 4 in. x 75 ft. Roll Fully-Adhered Butyl Flashing Tape (25 sq. ft.)

This flashing tape is easy to apply. It adheres well to the window area. We use it on that and on a couple of outside buildings before adding doors and windows to those. It appears to be durable as well. We are hoping to prevent any moisture or mildew problems like we had at a another house 25 years ago . I think this flashing will do the trick for us.

So, I have not yet had the opportunity to use the butyl flashing tape, but having used other brands in the past I can say that this product seems to be of good quality. The initial difficulty releasing the backing paper attests to the tape's "stickability". The 4 inch width will be ideal for my particular application. I have no worries that it will exceed my expectations.

I needed something like in the window sills of my garage. Man this stuff really works. The using of it is quite easy and you just have to cut it with some good scissors or a knife. I recommend you measuring how much you need before you start putting it down. I made a silly mistake the first time and realized how much I needed. I put some of it down and then it was really tough to take off without damaging the wall. So be careful.

The GCP APPLIED TECHNOLOGIES VYCOR PRO 4 IN. X 75 FT. ROLL FULLY-ADHERED BUTYL FLASHING TAPE is extremely sticky and very strong. It took a couple of tries to separate the backing as I mentioned very sticky, applied to window and door for installation prior to cynic siding installation. The tape bonded very well to the plywood and house wrap creating a water tight seal. This tape is very sturdy does not tear easily use knife or scissors.

This is a special purpose tape, intended to be used around rough openings of window and door surrounds to provide an additional weather barrier. As you can tell from the photos I used it on windows from the outer sheathing to the edge of the window. This way air/moisture can't enter through the cracks. I had previously calked around the window casing, but this provides and additional vapor barrier to prevent moisture from getting to the wood. I had never used this product before, I appreciated the generous 4" width which easily covered all of the rough openings. A word of warning about the adhesive.... its really sticky, don't let the sticky side of the tape touch itself (don't undo to much at a time). That being said it adheres really well, may sure you put it where you want it the first time. It thick enough you can't tear it, it must be cut. I was really happy with finished windows, I'm sure it will extend the life and usefulness of my new double pane windows and help prevent drafts inside.
