Good disposer with one caveat
This disposer does what it is supposed to do, so that is a good thing. It is fast and reasonably quiet compared to my old disposer that was 17 years old. I do have a single knock though against this product and that is the method of activating the disposer.
In order to activate the disposer, one has to use the special black drain plug which has a number of notches cut into it. It has three sizes of notches, small, medium and large. The medium and large notches are for those times when you want to block the drain completely or allow water to pass through while blocking the drain without activating the disposer. The small notches (there are two of these) are for actually activating the disposer. What you have to do is to line up the small notch with the activation switch located in the neck of the disposer and push the drain plug down. Once the notch in the plug gets behind the switch, the disposer turns on.
The issue is that its not an easy task to get the notch behind the switch, and I can see that this feature will be the first to wear out. Fortunately, I don't use the disposer very much so the times I have to activate it are few, but the activation mechanism is clunky at best and is not intuitive. I expected better from GE, as the products I have purchased from them in the past have been very good.
On the plus side, the disposer is quick and quiet, the motor seems powerful and is able to grind the food scraps I throw in there with ease. Time will tell on the durability of this machine and its activation mechanism.

Excellent Product
Overall we love this device! But you will need to order a few extra parts (the elbow joint for the fluid/waste to exit the system) but that is easy to find and super cheap (and easy to install as well). It works very well, it is very powerful, easy to use and very easy to install by yourself. It is also very quiet, and we love the batch feed system, not quite as convenient as the continuous feed, but it is still great, safer, and much quiet than a regular system.

Easy Installation
The hardest part was removing the older Disposall GFB1050 since the locking mechanism was difficult to unlock and required some hammering, however the newer model was easy to mount, plumb, and wire.
The original stopper appears to seal better than the newer stopper, allowing a continuous batch feed, while the newer stopper works when pressure is applied to the handle. My wife prefers the newer stopper.
