      A:  No, there is no ground wire in a 3-wire dryer or range cord. Back when 3-wire circuits were allowed 25 years ago the grounding was through the neutral conductor. Meaning, the frame of the appliance was bonded to the grounded neutral conductor inside the connection box at the rear of the appliance. Since the 1996 NEC, new electric dryer and range circuits have been required to be 4-wire with a separate equipment grounding conductor. Older 3-wire circuits can still be used as they are grandfathered.

      A:  Hello - Thanks for you question; we are glad to assist. For a 3-wire power cord, one wire would be a ground wire as this is what our dryers require. You absolutely should not split any of the wires. The instructions provided with it will direct you to which is the ground. Thanks for checking. Olga@GEA
