Asked by Michigan June 14, 2021

Winterizing this is not going to be easy. You will need to pump out the salt tank and come up with some way to use air to pressurize the valve assembly while running it through a regen cycle. It would probably be easier to drain the salt tank of salt and water and then take it home with you, providing you have hand truck to move it and a vehicle you can fit it in.

does chlorine damages the resin tank? do I need a chlorine pre filter to protect the water softner?

Asked by Syd June 3, 2021

Hello - Thank you for your question; we are happy to help! Softener resins may degrade in the presence of chlorine above 2 ppm. If you have chlorine in excess of this amount, you may experience reduced life of the resin. In these conditions, you may wish to consider purchasing a GE Appliances point-of-entry household filtration system with a chlorine reducing filter. Thanks for checking. Olga@GEA

Asked by Bill May 30, 2021

We bought a GE water softener from Home depot several years ago. The only horror story I can share is the multiple times Home Depot attempted to have a famous freight carrier deliver the unit, all ending in damaged units. I ultimately drove to my nearest Home Depot store and picked up a unit. It has been performing flawlessly ever since I installed it. You haven't described the horror stories you have heard (hearsay, at best); did the unit fall through the floor, or what? BTW, we use potassium chloride instead of calcium chloride, because we, our pets and plants don't want to consume the extra much sodium. Good luck.

No change in salt levels since one year.

Asked by AA April 4, 2021

That's correct. It isn't working at all. Not sure why you would wait a year. They didn't fix it. Get your money back. BTW, plumbers don't fix those units. They just install them.

Asked by 24buttonbuck March 18, 2021

I don't know the softener you have, but this unit is excellent. I can hear it running when I'm in the basement, but cannot hear it on either the main floor or 2nd floor. ours runs from 2 am to 4:30 am, but you could also change the start time of a time of day where it won't keep you awake and when you don't need softened water. Perhaps 8 pm to 10:30 pm or daytime if the house is empty.

Is this system tested and certified directly by the NSF?

Asked by Peter March 9, 2021

Hi Peter, we appreciate you reaching out to us. This water softener is not directly certified by the NSF. We're sorry if this is an inconvenience to you, but still want you to know we're wishing you the best. - Guy@GEA

Easy to install and maintain
Installed April 2020 by myself, had never done one before but found it much easier than I expected. Installation took about half an hour and was super easy with the use of two Sharkbite braided stainless steel supply hoses. Low energy use, very quiet and only needs to be refilled about every 6-7 months. The water here is 15 GPG and this makes the water much softer and there’s no mineral deposits in our fixtures or dishwasher!

1 yr and the softner broke flooding our new home
Not what we would have expected. We purchased it Feb 2020 for our new home. Started to We started to move in the end of the 1st week of May 2020. 1 year later our newly built house was flooded in the middle of the night, spreading resin beads all over. According the plumber that came out to look at the water softener, he said the core broke causing the the seals to break. If you are going to purchase G E, plan on getting extended warranty's on everything. Our flooring has to be replaced. Not something we would expect to have to deal with on a 1 year old house. We were lucky it didn't cause more damage, but my husband wakes up in the middle of the night, and got up and felt the water under his feet at 3:45 AM, found the source of the water, and shut the water off or the damage have been much worse had the water continued to flow over until 7 or 8 AM.

Hi there, we couldn't be more sorry to hear that this happened to you. We would never expect this for any of our consumers, so we can only imagine how awful this is for you. We see that you have a case and you've been in touch with a case manager, so we just recommend continuing to work with them for the best assistance. Guy@GEA
Quiet easy to add salt ..in first six months
This GE water softener replaced 20 plus year old unit and is attractive quiet and way more efficient with multiple settings allowed and easier to fill !

Simple to use
Very easy to use. Installation was longer then expected due packaging which allowed the internal resin tube to be out of alignment.

Water softener
Water softener we just upgraded our water softener from 11 years old water softener that wasn’t working properly . I was going through four bags of month so far the GE water softener has proven itself easy maintenance easy operation instructions easy install I can really tell it works the instrument panel for programming is so easy not like the other one I love that it fills up with seven bags of water softener bags a.k.a. salt. And it tells you how many days you have left to fill .It made a big difference compared to the old one we are new homeowners so we upgraded to the GE model gxsh40v01 model . I have researched many water softeners before buying this one it’s a no brainer you’ll really like it easy hook up and install works very well. For the do it yourself . You will be very happy with the outcome I can really tell the difference in the water quality. Awesome product and I don’t see that very often. This one is a keeper. The customer service picks up the phone when you call for program advice but after they explain it you’ll be fine just know the hardness of your water at your location so you can put it in settings and they knew that already when I called So easy to program compared to other ones everything is easy access for service

Water softener
Product fit my needs. Never had a water softener, spoke to the the employee and after having a conversation about my needs and wants, we came up with this one. Had previously read the reviews on the brand and was not disappointed. Easy installation

Easy to install, packaged well
We needed to replace a softener that was about 7 years old and the resin bed was shot, lots of iron in the hard water here in Florida. We are on a well system. After reading a lot of reviews and research we decided to purchase and are glad we did. Save a few hundred bucks and installed it myself. Tip, it may take a helper to move it to the exact location for fitting the supply lines.

Was delivered to my door on time, and put in the garage for me (it was heavy). The price was great. Everything went smoothly in the installation, and it all works like it's supposed to work. I have recommended this product to two friends.

Softer water
I love the product. The only thing is hard to figure out what your hard water is to program it. Do your thing I can't figure out how to keep it from having more water than Salt. It always overflows at the top and the Overflow spout. Which I'm glad it has

The installation was simple and the directions were detailed. I paired this with the GE smart water filter also seen in the picture. I have very hard water and I have had to set this at 125 (default setting is 25) to get my water softened to zero but it does a good job. At that setting I am adding a bag every 3 days or so. I thought this was a smart water softener like the water filter but it is not. The 40,000 grain like this one is the smart version. I had added the 40k to my cart and switched to this one because my calculation was 48k and I didn't notice is wasn't smart until I was installing it.
