Where is this dehumidifier made?

Asked by Brad January 9, 2021

Answers

Hello Brad. All of our dehumidifiers are made globally. GE Appliances products are designed by GE Appliances engineers in the United States. Many are manufactured in the U.S. and others are made globally to our specifications. The country of origin is shown on the Model/Serial rating plate as well as the packaging. Manufacturing facilities (plant sites, where appliances are made) can and do change from time to time because GE Appliances continues to seek the most efficient manufacturing processes available. We make products all over the world for a Global marketplace. Therefore, your best source for manufacturing location is the packaging/product itself. Stay in touch and stay safe. Geoff@GEA

Hello Vincent. This model can be drained to a floor drain using a garden hose. Water can be automatically emptied into a floor drain by attaching a garden water hose (not included). This is found on page 6 of the following manual for this model dehumidifier. https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/61/615338bf-8aeb-4781-8951-c8fda04a6eea.pdf I hope you find this information helpful. Can you use this in a crawl space, under the house?

Yes. That is what I’m using it for; to lower the humidity under the house. Works well pumping the water out to a bucket

what is the noise level of this unit? Lowest speed, of course.

Answer

Hi ROCK - Thank you for reaching out to us and for your interest in this dehumidifier! Though we do not rate our dehumidifiers for sound performance, our appliances are always designed with the quietest possible performance in mind. We are happy to offer you some guidance on normal operational sounds you may hear. - When it is running you will hear compressor noise, a condenser fan noise as air is moving through the unit, possible water dripping into the storage bucket, and normal cycling on and off sounds much like you hear with your refrigerator. Additionally, If the bucket is full or missing for more than 3 minutes, an alarm will sound for about 10 seconds to remind you to empty and replace the bucket. - We hope that this helps! -Eliza@GEA

If I put the unit in my great room will it drop the humidity in all the rooms on the same level o...

Asked by Thomas November 9, 2020

Answer

It has a range - if you have it in a room that is 20ft long by 15ft wide with two adjacent doors leading to say smaller rooms (ex: bedrooms) I get about a 10% difference - the main room will be 50%, the bedrooms around 60%. The farther you get away (and the more closed doors) the less effect you will have. Honestly, only air conditioning and heat can truly dry out a modern American house - if you have a great room with a high ceiling a 70 pint would be a better option than a 50. If not a high ceiling a 50 will be sufficient for the great room only, with a smaller affect on adjacent rooms with open doors. The smaller the space, the more dehumidification you can achieve (and the less your power bill will be from the machine not having to run all the time). I usually consider 100 pints sufficient for a 1000ft house crawl space to achieve 55-45% humidity. I consider 2 50 pint dehumidifiers sufficient to control a 2000ft house that has all the doors open and some air exchange. I put a dehumidifier on either end of the house to "overlap" their range of effect.

Is the ADEL50LZ rated 50-pints under the new standard, or under the old standard... which one?

Asked by TheB October 28, 2020

Answer

New standard, which equates to about 70 under the old one.

My house has mold and moisture through it. Will this unit help keep the mold down? It is everywhere.

Asked by Jaco October 10, 2020

Answer

I have two, also purchased in the last 2-3 months. It definitely helps with moisture. But clean it thoroughly and frequently with soap or it will develop mold in the bucket (which is too small to get your hands in). It won't get rid of mold that you already have.

DO NOT BUY... 1 of 2
Bought this model summer of 2020. left it on all of the time. Performed regular maintenance and cleaning. Quit Feb of 2021. I registered the product on GE site. Called customer service. They said they had to re-register the product for me because I did it wrong. They asked for no info. How can they say I did it wrong and re-register the product if they didn't have they didn't ask for the SN from me? They then told me they would send a Tech to look at the system. I would have to provide proof of purchase because they said I registered the product incorrectly and the SN was wrong after they re-registered the product for me.... suspicious. I have an apt with the tech. I'm not paying for it at all. $100 service fee if they don't take my proof of purchase. I will follow up after the service call. that seems more wasteful than sending a new one over. maybe they know their product is terrible.

Response from GE AnswersFeb 25, 2021
Hi Bru83, thanks for leaving a review. We're sorry to hear about the issues that you've had with your dehumidifier. We can understand how that would be frustrating. We wanted to let you know that GE Appliances does not service dehumidifiers. If you're wanting your unit serviced, we'd recommend reaching out to a local servicer to see if they are able to assist. If you find that service is not cost effective, you may want to considers a replacement model. We hope this helps and that you're staying safe. -Michael@GEA GE_Appliances

Happy other than the beeping when full
Get one without beeping if it’s going in your bedroom -I live in hawaii and have a very damp humid climate. I have had it for a few days now and it was easy to set up, light and rolls making moving it simple. Hindsight i would have bought one with WiFi or a app, I hate the 20 loud beeps when tanks full bc it fills in the middle of the night beeping incessantly. Is there a way to turn this beep off?? I haven’t figured out how long it takes to fill the tank but in my large master bedroom with bathroom I dump this at least 4x a day and that’s bc I’m not home all day to do it right away. Either my homes insanely moist or i should have gotten a bigger one.

I was getting a lot of condensation on my windows...
I was getting a lot of condensation on my windows during the winter so I purchased this dehumidifier based on its capacity and functionality. So far it is working as advertised and has done a good (and quick) job of getting the humidity down to a reasonable level. My only negative comment is that the noise level is fairly high and gets higher as the fan speed increases. It is not the fan or condenser that is the problem but the casters/wheels on the bottom of the unit. Any vibration gets transferred from the lower part of the unit into the wheels and into the floor. I had to move it from a hard wood floor onto an area rug with a pad and have now started using the Styrofoam packing from the shipping box to isolate the wheels from the floor. Need to get some rubber vibration isolation pads but of course that negates the ability to easily roll the unit out of the way when needed. Otherwise I am happy with the purchase.
