AnswersThey're showing it upside down. It plugs into (and uses up) BOTH of the outlets in a standard duplex; the top line and neutral blades, and BOTH round ground pins.

AnswersThis unit takes up both outlets on a standard wall plate, and is nearly as tall as the standard wall plate. It is about 1" wide when you're facing the wall, and extends out about 1-1/2" - bigger than you'd think. It's very solid, and I like the ones that I bought. But you said it's in a double-wide plate next to a dimmer switch. It will fit into the double outlet, but you'll only be able to plug into the the three outlets facing away from the dimmer. you'll you'll use up two wall outlets to get three, getting only one more usable outlet. Instead, you might consider a short 3-outlet extension cord. It would only take one of the two outlets in the wall plate, giving you a total of four usable outlets. You'd also get more flexibility on where the outlets are positioned, and it will be less expensive than the product you're asking about.

Compact, functional, and cost effective.

This outlet tap has all the features I needed for our kitchen outlet. It is small, compact, provides side access to the outlets, and increases the outlet quantity. It fits snugly behind our microwave and allows us to plug-in the microwave, water dispenser, toaster, mopping robot charging base, AND still have two outlets free, if needed. Another advantage to the side-access of the outlets is that if/when you pull out a plug, you don't have the issue of instead pulling the entire outlet tap from the wall. That's a big plus in the convenience category.
I really appreciate the compact design; the width is smaller than that of the wall outlet plate, so it's easy to hide, and the depth is as compact as it can be (1.75 to 2 inches deep). The cost is very reasonable, too. It would be nice if this item were stocked in the store; luckily I found it with a deliberate homedepot.com search. I was about to buy one of the swivel outlet taps, but this product is better for what I needed, and half the price. I had it shipped free-to-store, so it all worked out.
I am pleased with the purchase. Will purchase again if I need a similar outlet fix in another room.
